In ServusTV's report, scientific director Prof. Dr. Hermann Steffan and group leader Stefan Kirschbichler explain how these models depict internal organs, bones and muscles. HBMs will play an important role in the development of restraint systems in the future, as the established methods and models (crash test dummies) are no longer fully adequate. Why? Future advanced driver assistance systems will allow passengers to sit in new, comfortable positions, which will lead to changed geometric constraints in the design of safety systems. This will increase the need to identify different injury mechanisms due to new load directions of the occupants compared to today's seating positions. VIRTUAL VEHICLE is therefore working on further developed Human Body Models (HBMs) - more about this in the ServusTV video.
