The final presentation took place on 12th November in the ETA factory of the Technical University Darmstadt. The research project, started in 2017 and was carried out in cooperation with the Institute for Mechanics and Materials Research (IMM) at the Mittelhessen University of Applied Sciences, the TU Darmstadt and industrial partners, shows that the use of plastic glazing made of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) is feasible with regard to crashworthiness. "The material promises a weight reduction of up to 50 percent in direct comparison to conventional vehicle glass window panes, and this with significantly improved breakage elongation and acoustics," explains Prof. Stefan Kolling from the Mittelhessen University of Applied Sciences, the motivation of the project.
