Five laser-based measuring systems were tested. The Fraunhofer IPM PPS was installed on a measuring vehicle of the Fraunhofer IPM cooperation partner Ginger (Lehmann + Partner GmbH) for the measurements during the study. The result of the study shows that the PPS can detect both cross sections and ruts as well as lane markings with the necessary reliability. Furthermore, it has been shown that scanning systems like the PPS are on a par with the triangulation measurement systems, and in some significant respects even clearly superior (eg in terms of eye safety).
