Front Structure Crash and Occupant Safety
Fundamentals of passive safety are important in order to help design a car that is able to meet the demanding legal and consumer requirements. For instance, vehicle crash pulse generally reveals the structural behavior as well as the vehicle motion in a crash event, particularly in a front crash. On the other hand, restraint design is often dependent on the crash pulse. Therefore, a good understanding of the passive safety concept will enable a smooth integration of the vehicle structure and restraint system. At present, there are many advanced restraint components available in the market and the challenge now is to integrate them together in order to create an effective restraint system. This seminar aims to introduce the fundamentals of passive safety concept. Overview of the basic laws related to the impact and restraint system design will also be discussed to explain the important concept of front restraint system. Next, we will provide comprehensive explanation on the interpretation of the occupant injury values in the context of front crash and also on the working principle of the restraint components. Important aspects of the restraint component integration, restraint system design and optimization strategies will also be discussed during the seminar in order for the audience to have an in-depth understanding of this topic.

Chye Hock Tok
Chye Hock Tok holds a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Degree. He started his career in the field of vehicle passive safety and now has approximately 11 years of working experience with international automotive engineering consultancy firms as well as world leading restraint system supplier. He has undertaken numerous vehicle passive safety development programs for international OEMs, particularly in the area of front and side occupant safety. He now holds a Senior Engineer position in ARRK | P+Z Engineering and is also responsible for the CAE topics in Southeast Asia.
Dr.-Ing. Quanji Cai
Dr.-Ing. Quanji Cai studied Automotive Engineering at Tsinghua University in China and got her master and doctorate degree at the department of computation in engineering at Technische Universität München in Germany. She has a solid theoretical foundation of finite element analysis and nearly 10 years of practical experience in solving complex engineering problems. She has led the team to successfully complete passive safety projects of several well-known international OEMs. She is now team leader of passive safety department at ARRK Engineering and responsible for structural crash and pedestrian protection projects.
