Description

The seminar addresses all key technologies needed for highly and fully automated driving:

  • (Fully Redundant) Surround Sensors
  • High Definition Digital Maps, Satellite Navigation, Road Signatures, Odometer
  • Self-Localization and Cooperative Maneuvering
  • Intelligent Algorithms and Artificial Intelligence
  • Communication Systems
After a detailed description of these technologies, the system gaps and limitations are discussed, based on available data and information of accidents and system failures. Major challenges to be addressed are the perception maturity, the prediction of other agents in maneuvering, the operating safety and system validation. Another focus is the re-transfer of the vehicle control to the driver, as requested in level 3 “high automation”.

Who should attend?

The seminar refers to engineers, technicians and experts working in the research and development, testing and application of automated driving systems. Also highly welcome are experts working in areas related to autonomous driving and new mobility, such as safety authorities, consultants and lawyers.

Course Objectives

The seminar provides a comprehensive and deep understanding of the technologies used in automated driving. It will encourage and enable the participants to contribute their competence and expertise in the solution of the challenges still to be resolved.

Course Contents

  • Sensor Principles: Cameras, RaDAR, LiDAR, vehicle motion, sensor fusion and redundancy, object classification
  • Digital Maps: High definition map and road signatures
  • Localization: Satellite navigation, odometer, Simultaneous Localization And Mapping (SLAM), triangulation
  • Cooperative Maneuvering: Trajectory projection, motion prediction, maneuver planning and negotiation
  • Intelligence: Deterministic algorithms, stochastic classifiers, machine learning and deep neural networks
  • Operating Safety: Functional safety and system validation

Groesch Automotive Safety Consulting

Groesch For more then 44 years, Dr. Lothar Grösch has been working in vehicle safety, both passive (crash sensing and electronics, occupant protection) and active safety (surround sensors, accident avoidance). First of all working for 18 years for one of the leading OEMs in vehicle safety, another 16 years followed in automotive safety sensors and electronics at one of the major automotive suppliers. Working as a Product Director for Automotive Safety Systems in the US from 2000 through 2009, he is particularly familiar with the specific requirements of the US market, legislation and product liability. Since 2009, Dr. Groesch has been doing consulting business under the name Automotive Safety Consulting with focus on driver assistance, accident avoidance and autonomous driving. Last but not least, he is teaching automotive safety at several universities and has conducted numerous in-house seminars about automotive safety.
