On March 31, the Call for Papers for our 7th International Symposium 
The project EMMA-CC focuses on the digital modeling and simulation of human work activity. Using software, movements in manufacturing and production can be simulated, analyzed and made more ergonomic. Six Fraunhofer Institutes are involved in the project called Ergo-dynamic Moving Manikin with Cognitive Control. 
Simulation has gained acceptance for cost-effective and reliable development of vehicle safety systems. One of the main objectives of the SENIORS project is to investigate and develop HBMs representative of elderly and overweight people as car occupants. 
ANSYS has announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire OPTIS, a premier provider of software for scientific simulation of light, human vision and physics-based visualization. The acquisition of OPTIS will extend ANSYS' industry-leading multiphysics-based portfolio into the increasingly important area of optical simulation. 
Cooperating and networking is the answer to increasingly complex technical and scientific issues. For this reason, the Fraunhofer Institutes for Non-Destructive Testing IZFP, for Material Mechanics IWM and for Structural Durability and System Reliability LBF bundle their expertise. They offer a comprehensive portfolio for a holistic material characterization of plastics and fiber composites for component design. 
The two companies will join forces to help their customers innovate faster and at lower cost. Modelon's extensive Modelica-based libraries are being gradually integrated into SimulationX, ESI's software platform for multiphysics system simulation. 
Components for automobiles and machines are often produced in several massive forming steps. Common computer simulations for component design cannot always accurately calculate damage evolution in multi-stage processes to predict the location and timing of a material failure. This is now achieved by a new simulation model developed at the Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials IWM in Freiburg.
