Bikes have some of the same requirements as modern motor vehicles: lightweight, strength and durability, affordability, and high performance. To achieve these, the thyssenkrupp steelworks team developed what they called inbike® technology, which combines high-strength steel, half-shell technology and automated laser welding.
Load bikes are "hip" and a symbol for climate-friendly mobility, we encounter them every day. Load bikes still offer plenty of potential for optimization. In the newly launched project "Lasten-LeichtBauFahrrad" (L-LBF), scientists at the Fraunhofer Institute for Structural Durability and System Reliability LBF are looking for additional lightweight construction potential for these urban vehicles.
By expanding virtual test support for long- and short-term tests, Bertrandt is enabling its customers to bring the testing of their components into their home office. This eliminates the need for long journeys or business trips even after Corona, allows working time to be used sensibly and thus protects the environment in the long term.
In her post Marina Sousani introduces the latest in particle breakage simulation technology. The model combines computationally efficient methods for calculating the energy of the system and applies an innovative particle replacement approach to deliver accurate breakage results based on stochastic, rather than deterministic, methods. A wide range of materials as well as their fine distributions can be modelled now!

A tool from Fraunhofer IGD makes it easier for engineers to select the optimal design for a commissioned product and creates transparent and easily understandable price/performance comparisons that lead to shorter coordination paths.

The competence center "Quantum High Performance Computing" has been opened at Fraunhofer ITWM; it is the second quantum competence center of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. The aim of this large-scale research project is to make quantum computing usable for industrial applications.
