Five Stars for Volkswagen’s Virtus while GM’s Onix improves to three Stars

Latin NCAP’s first round of results for 2018 was released with encouraging results to begin the year for the Virtus and the improved Onix. In our latest testing, the Virtus followed the Polo five stars while the Onix just achieved three stars after improvements implemented following the 2017 zero star result.

DENSO develops new Vision Sensor for improved Night Driving Safety

article imageDENSO Corporation announced it has developed a new standard vision sensor that detects pedestrians at night, cyclists, road signs, driving lanes and other road users. Working in conjunction with a millimeter-wave radar sensor, the new vision sensor allows automobiles to automatically activate emergency braking when obstacles are identified, helping reduce accidents and improve overall vehicle safety. It is featured in the 2018 Toyota Alphard and Vellfire, which were released in January this year.

Regulation of Child Restraint System and Use of APTS

article imageThe APT Sensors are now adopted in UN Regulation for dummies used to certify child restraint systems.  This process took time before it becomes compulsory and included into the regulation. This regulation has been entered thanks to the extensive work made by the EEVC - European Enhanced Vehicle Safety Committee. Euro NCAP has not already introduced any APT sensors in dummy instrumentation for the child occupant protection tests.

AAA partners with Torc Robotics on Self-driving Car Safety Criteria

article imageTorc Robotics and AAA Northern California Nevada & Utah (NCNU) today announced their partnership to develop safety criteria for self-driving cars through a testing program on public streets. Using Torc’s self-driving system, called Asimov, the partners will collect data from various urban safety cases they observe while driving. In addition to data collected by Torc during previous testing, the partners will collect data in Las Vegas this year and in additional cities in the near future. The experience and information gathered will help inform safety for the developing industry.

ZF develops Advanced Steering Wheel Concept for Automated and HMI Solutions

LG and Honeywell demo Automotive Cybersecurity Solution

article imageHoneywell and LG Electronics Inc. signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a unique automotive software technology and infrastructure solution to address threats associated with the increase in vehicle connectivity technology. The two companies showcased a collaborative cybersecurity solution at the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas earlier this month, and at the recently concluded 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

HELLA launches new Business Model for Camera-based Driver Assistance Systems

The Berlin-based subsidiary HELLA Aglaia is rolling out an open platform for camera-based driver assistance systems. This provides customers with the possibility of updating hardware components and series-proven software functions, such as lighting control, lane/traffic sign/pedestrian and object recognition, according to individual preferences and needs.
