New LEAF charging ahead with 5 Star Result in toughest Safety Tests to date

Study explores Safety of Rear-facing Car Seats in Rear Impact Car Crash

article imageRear-facing car seats have been shown to significantly reduce infant and toddler fatalities and injuries in frontal and side-impact crashes, but they’re rarely discussed in terms of rear-impact collisions. Because rear-impact crashes account for more than 25 percent of all accidents, researchers at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center conducted a new study to explore the effectiveness of rear-facing car seats in this scenario.

Continental unveils new Assistance Concepts for early Risk Detection of Aquaplaning Situations

article imageDry, icy, snowy, or wet: awareness of road conditions is a crucial safety factor as accidents in severe weather arise mainly due to significant loss of friction between tires and the surface of the road. With its Road Condition Observer, Continental has introduced a solution that allows road conditions to be classified with regard to tire/road friction. A specific situation called aquaplaning is extremely dangerous for manually driven vehicles as well as automated ones.

Movable Crash Block saves Money and Time

article imageMESSRING installs a 100-metric-ton crash block at IAV Ingolstadt’s test facility, which can be repositioned for "small overlap tests" within five minutes. Since the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) introduced the small overlap crash test in the US in 2012, the demand for these types of frontal impact tests has increased steadily year after year.

Euro NCAP Assessment Inspector in Australia as Part of World Region Alignment

Road Safety: Data show Improvements in 2017

article imageThe preliminary 2017 road safety statistics released by the Commission show, for the second year in a row, a decrease in the number of fatalities of around 2 %. 25 300 people lost their lives on EU roads in 2017, which is 300 fewer than in 2016 (-2 %) and 6 200 fewer than in 2010 (-20 %).
