Success for Audi and VW in meeting Euro NCAP’s 5-Star Challenge

article imageEuro NCAP releases the safety ratings of four new cars. Both the Audi A6 and the VW Touareg achieve a maximum five- star rating, the Ford Tourneo Connect achieves a solid four-star rating and the new Suzuki Jimny scores three stars. The Audi A6 and the VW Touareg score particularly well for vulnerable road user protection including Euro NCAP’s new requirements for cyclist-detecting AEB.

Safety Report highlights Motorcycle Crash Risks, recommends Safety Improvements

article imageThe National Transportation Safety Board issued September 11, 2018, a safety report highlighting the need for better integration of motorcycles in crash warning and prevention systems and for more widespread availability of enhanced braking and stability control systems on motorcycles. The report analyzed select risk factors associated with the causes of motorcycle crashes and evaluated strategies to prevent them.

Report highlights more must be done to eliminate Road Trauma

article imageANCAP has commended the report released following the Inquiry into the National Road Safety Strategy – highlighting more must be done to eliminate road trauma. One of the 12 recommendations put forward as a result of the Inquiry into the effectiveness of Australia’s current road safety strategy (2011-2020) is to: “Implement rapid deployment and accelerated uptake of proven vehicle safety technologies and innovation.”

ARGOSY Offset Deformable Barrier Frontal Impact

Latin NCAP Latest Results: Zero for Hyundai Accent while Ford Ka improves Side Impact Protection

article imageThe fifth round of results for the New Car Assessment Programme for Latin America and the Caribbean, Latin NCAP, was released with a poor result for the Hyundai Accent and an improvement for the Ford Ka’s side impact protection. The Hyundai Accent, achieved zero stars for Adult Occupant Protection and one star for Child Occupant Protection.

Seatbelt Reminders on Every new Car Seat from 2019

article imageThe EU is set to adopt updated UNECE regulations on seatbelts that will require seatbelt reminder systems in all front and rear seats on new cars from September 2019. Existing EU vehicle safety rules agreed in 2009 only require seatbelt reminder systems on the driver’s seat. The updated requirements also include the front and rear passenger seats.

American Academy of Pediatrics updates Recommendations on Car Seats for Children

article imageThe American Academy of Pediatrics is publishing updated recommendations on car safety seats, but the real-world impact on how parents should use the seats in vehicles will be minimal. In the updated policy statement, “Child Passenger Safety,” and an accompanying technical report, the AAP recommends children remain in a rear-facing car safety seat as long as possible, until they reach the highest weight or height allowed by their seat.
