The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Federal Highway Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are the recipients of 11 safety recommendations made by the National Transportation Safety Board, September 25, 2018, in its Pedestrian Safety Special Investigation Report. 
On September 26, 2018, under the guidance of the China Insurance Industry Association, the China Insurance Automobile Safety Index Management Center held a press conference in Chongqing, China and released the results of the first 12 models of China Insurance Automobile Safety Index (C-IASI) in 2018. 
This year’s Human Modeling Symposium will take place on October 18 - 19 in Berlin, Germany. This year’s focus session on autonomous vehicles features lectures about upcoming non-standard impact configurations, the application of human modeling in AD development processes and many more subjects regarding the future of mobility. 
Euro NCAP releases the safety ratings of four new cars. Both the Audi A6 and the VW Touareg achieve a maximum five- star rating, the Ford Tourneo Connect achieves a solid four-star rating and the new Suzuki Jimny scores three stars. The Audi A6 and the VW Touareg score particularly well for vulnerable road user protection including Euro NCAP’s new requirements for cyclist-detecting AEB.
The question of how state-of-the-art driver assistance systems as well as partially autonomous, highly autonomous, and fully autonomous vehicles can demonstrate their suitability for use on public roads is a matter of concern for legislators as well as for the automotive industry and its suppliers worldwide. In order to keep pace with the needs of its clients and to cope with the new requirements, MESSRING founded a subsidiary. 
ANCAP has commended the report released following the Inquiry into the National Road Safety Strategy – highlighting more must be done to eliminate road trauma. One of the 12 recommendations put forward as a result of the Inquiry into the effectiveness of Australia’s current road safety strategy (2011-2020) is to: “Implement rapid deployment and accelerated uptake of proven vehicle safety technologies and innovation.” 
ARGOSY is pleased to announce it is now one of the suppliers to IIHS for the Offset Deformable Barrier (ODB) developed under EEVC-WG11 for overlap tests. IIHS will accept verification tests from automakers using ARGOSY Offset Deformable Barriers. The ODB Barrier face is the first barrier developed by ARGOSY and released in 2017. 
The fifth round of results for the New Car Assessment Programme for Latin America and the Caribbean, Latin NCAP, was released with a poor result for the Hyundai Accent and an improvement for the Ford Ka’s side impact protection. The Hyundai Accent, achieved zero stars for Adult Occupant Protection and one star for Child Occupant Protection. 
The EU is set to adopt updated UNECE regulations on seatbelts that will require seatbelt reminder systems in all front and rear seats on new cars from September 2019. Existing EU vehicle safety rules agreed in 2009 only require seatbelt reminder systems on the driver’s seat. The updated requirements also include the front and rear passenger seats. 
The American Academy of Pediatrics is publishing updated recommendations on car safety seats, but the real-world impact on how parents should use the seats in vehicles will be minimal. In the updated policy statement, “Child Passenger Safety,” and an accompanying technical report, the AAP recommends children remain in a rear-facing car safety seat as long as possible, until they reach the highest weight or height allowed by their seat.
