Not one restraint scored five stars; only two car seats scored four stars. Shockingly, one test resulted in the dummy being ejected from the restraint in a catastrophic performance failure. The result has led to an overhaul of the test protocol so that a zero rating can be given. CREP has contacted the ACCC and Standards Australia to notify them of the result.

Modernized Occupant Protection Safety Standards proposedThe NHTSA issued a proposal to modernize numerous Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards and clarify ambiguities in current occupant protection standards for vehicles equipped with automated driving systems that are designed without traditional manual controls. read more ... Novel Camera Calibration Method could drive safer Autonomous VehiclesAutonomous or self-driving vehicles watch the roads before them using inbuilt cameras. Ensuring that accurate camera orientation is maintained during driving is, therefore, key to letting these vehicles out on roads. Taking us one step closer to realizing autonomous driving systems, scientists from Korea have developed a highly accurate and efficient camera orientation estimation method that will enable such vehicles to navigate safely across distances.

BSI unveils new Safety Requirements to help ensure safe Trials and Tests of Automated VehiclesThe British Standards Institution has released PAS 1881 Assuring safety of automated vehicle trials and testing. The specification sets out minimum requirements for managing safety during development testing and when trialling automated vehicles, such as driverless cars, both on and off public roads. read more ... Practical and effective Consideration of Vehicle Offset in AEB TestsWithin the framework of the Working Group P-Safe, many members performed vehicle tests according to RCAR's Parking AEB procedure. While determination of the vehicle offset in car-to-car test method for a circular path is well described, their consideration may not be trivial in practice. For this reason, KTI developed a practical and cost- effective solution to take into account vehicle offset during Parking AEB tests.
