Veoneer, emotion3D and AVL develop the world s first personalized and situation-aware restraint control technology system. The companies will develop an innovative restraint control system able to personalize the actions of passive safety systems in event of a crash. Using a 3D sensor for understanding the vehicle interior, the system will consider a wide range of relevant, personal and situational factors such as body physique, position and pose, weight and gender.

Dacia aims low while Skoda, VW electrify

article imageEuro NCAP releases the safety ratings of three new cars and one new variant. Skoda ENYAQ iV and Volkswagen ID.4 are each awarded a top five-star rating. The Dacia Sandero Stepway is given a two-star rating and this applies also to the saloon version of the vehicle, the Logan. The plug-in hybrid derivative of the Cupra Formentor, is also added to the list of variants covered by that car's five-star rating.

Government paves the Way for Self-driving Vehicles on UK Roads

4,000 fewer People lost their Lives on EU Roads in 2020

article imageThe European Commission published preliminary figures on road fatalities for 2020. An estimated 18,800 people were killed in a road crash last year, an unprecedented annual fall of 17 % on 2019. This means almost 4,000 fewer people lost their lives on EU roads in 2020 compared to 2019. Lower traffic volumes, as the result of the COVID-19 pandemic, had a clear, though unmeasurable, impact on the number of road fatalities.
