Euro NCAP delivers new Set of Highway Assist ResultsEuro NCAP publishes the Assisted Driving gradings of seven cars equipped with Highway Assist. The overall best performer in this batch is the BMW iX3, graded as "Very Good". Two others - the Ford Mustang Mach-E and the CUPRA Formentor - achieve "Good" gradings. The assist systems of the Polestar 2 and the Hyundai IONIQ 5 are graded as "Moderate", while the Toyota Yaris and Opel Mokka-e offer "Entry" level systems.

Autoliv and the Piaggio Group join Forces to develop a Scooter and Motorcycle AirbagAutoliv, Inc. and the Piaggio Group are collaborating to develop an airbag for powered two-wheelers, for greater rider safety. A joint development agreement was signed by the two parties for the purpose of developing airbags to provide greater protection for two-wheeler riders and enhance riding pleasure. The airbags will be mounted on the vehicle frame and will deploy in milliseconds.

Major Auto Markets join Forces for Draft UN Legislation on Electric Vehicle Battery DurabilityUntil now, consumers have been unable to access reliable information on how well vehicle batteries will perform over time, casting doubts on the sustainability of their investment. This could change thanks to a proposal for a new legal instrument to ensure minimum durability of batteries fitted in full electric and plug-in hybrid cars, endorsed by the World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations (WP.29), hosted by UNECE. This marks the first international effort, supported by Canada, China, Japan, Republic of Korea, the United Kingdom, the United States of America and the European Union to regulate the issue of battery degradation.

Dutch Data Extraction Breakthrough could lead to better Road Crash InvestigationsThe Netherlands Forensic Institute (NFI), a Dutch government institution, says it is the first research organisation to successfully read and publish the encoded driving data stored in Tesla vehicles, beyond what is available via the Event Data Recorder (EDR). The results, which have already been presented at a conference, could help independent researchers around the world better understand the role driver assistance systems such as Tesla "Autopilot" may or may not play in collisions.

Hyundai Mobis to assist Driving in a narrow Street with its new Automated Urban Driving SystemHyundai Mobis developes the world's first urban Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) called the Mobis Parking System (MPS), which integrates Narrow Space Assistance (NSA), Reverse Assistance (RA), and Remote Smart Parking Assistance (RSPA). With the MPS, the car is able to drive itself through a narrow street by avoiding obstructions, drive through the revolving gate of an underground parking lot, or drive backwards at a dead end where two cars are facing each other. All these are made possible at the press of a button.

Detecting Drowsy Drivers with Data Fusion TechNew Mineta Transportation Institute (MTI) research, Detecting Driver Drowsiness with Multi-Sensor Data Fusion Combined with Machine Learning, provides a working prototype of technology to detect drowsy driving and help save lives. By integrating two modes of visual surveillance to examine a biometric expression of drowsiness, including increased eye blinks and yawns, the system can detect when a driver may be dozing off-a technology that could be implemented to save lives in the near future.
