The sole acquisition of high quality measurement data is getting less important for many industrial applications since only the combination with data processing and data analysis allows a user to decide whether a component fulfills the required quality. Under the umbrella of the Fraunhofer IPM, the Department of Material Characterization and Testing at the Kaiserslautern site has developed the Terahertz technology for industrial insulation over the last ten years. In particular, an application field was developed with the non-contact layer thickness measurement, the success of which is based mainly on the physical modeling and the parallel numerical evaluation of the measured data.
