In the research project "Fatigue of short-fiber-reinforced thermoplastic polymer materials", the Fraunhofer Institute for Structural Durability and System Reliability LBF and the Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials IWM are developing reliable calculation models for determining the material fatigue of short-fiber reinforced thermoplastics. The scientists involved are pursuing a combined experimental-numerical approach. In the first step, they experimentally investigate the fundamental damage effects on laboratory samples and supplement this with component tests. On this basis, the scientists want to formulate a damage model and implement it in a commercial FE program. As an efficient alternative, they will develop a damage accumulation hypothesis to be used purely in postprocessing.
