Automotive CAE Grand Challenge 2014 a great success!

article imageOn 15 an 16 April the 6th Automotive CAE Grand Challenge was held in Hanau (near Frankfurt), Germany. In 7 sessions 40 speakers from industry, research and software development reported on the current challenges of automotive CAE and their efforts to overcome them. In the lectures and in parallel workshops 159 participants from 14 countries and 4 continents received comprehensive information on the progress in automotive CAE. In addition, participants had the opportunity to gather valuable information about hardware, software, and related services for automotive CAE in the accompanying exhibition with 26 well-known companies from the world of CAE. Participants, speakers, exhibitors and sponsors were very pleased with the conference.

The 7th automotive CAE Grand Challenge will take place on 31 March and 1 April 2015. If you are interested in the conference, please note the date and follow our announcements.

Incorporation of ADINA Germany

article imageADINA is a leading finite element program for the analysis of nonlinear structural, fluid-structure interaction (FSI) and multi-physical problems. The company ADINA R & D, Inc. was founded in 1986 by Prof. Dr. Klaus Jürgen Bathe and his colleagues in the U.S. Since then the company pursued the goal to continually develop ADINA. Today ADINA is used all around the world. Parts of the ADINA program are used in NX Nastran (Solution 601/701), which is offered by Siemens. Currently, a German subsidiary of the company ADINA R & D is established to strengthen the diffusion of ADINA in Germany and to support the user on site.

DatapointLabs expands composite testing

article imageWith the increased use of high-strength, low-weight composite materials in structural design, DatapointLabs has seen an increase in demand for physical properties of these materials. For many years DatapointLabs has offered testing to capture rate sensitivity of polymeric and metallic materials for use in CAE simulation. Now they are extending their offering to composite materials, incorporating tensile, flexural and shear deformations. Composites present a significant simulation challenge because of their non-isotropic nature, so that even simple stiffness predictions require a complex material model. Composites testing has now been extended into the dynamic arena with high strain-rate testing capability up to 100/s. Further developments are under way to provide even more material tests for composite materials, as well as to implement more composite material models for supported structural CAE platforms.

VI-DriveSim static to support Citroën racing’s drivers training for Touring Car Championship

article imageVI-grade, the leading provider of best-in-class software products and services for advanced applications in the field of system-level simulation, announced that Citroën Racing has selected driving simulation technology from VI-grade to implement a driving simulator for driver training during the 2014 WTCC season. Some months ago, Citroën Racing announced the decision to join the 2014 WTCC with 4 drivers: The four-time WTCC winner Yvan Muller, the nine-time WRC champion Sébastien Loeb and F1 test driver Jose Maria Lopez for the complete season and Chinese Ma Qing Hua for five rounds. As a part of this decision, and being entirely new in the discipline, the team identified the importance of having a driving simulator in order to support its drivers in learning new tracks. The static simulator, entirely implemented by VI-grade, will be installed prior the beginning of the championship at Citroën Racing premises in Versailles and used for the preparation of the FIA World Touring Car Championship.

HBM releases version 10 of nCode DesignLife and GlyphWorks including new high-quality fatigue material data base

article imageThe new versions of HBM’s software for the investigation of fatigue offer a variety of improvements. The most important innovation may be the newly introduced durability material database. This database provides fatigue properties for commonly used steels and aluminum alloys. All data in the database have been derived from tests performed in the ISO 9001 certified Advanced Materials Characterization & Test Facility operated by HBM-nCode. It can be technically challenging to simulate fatigue failure, but it's impossible to get accurate fatigue life calculations without specific and reliable materials data. Therefore the new materials database from nCode provides reliable, high-quality fatigue parameters and helps avoiding costly material tests. The first release of the database includes 72 materials and is available to customers exclusively through the nCode licensing. nCode plans to add 20 to 30 materials to the database annually.
