5th International Symposium Human Modeling and Simulation in Automotive Engineering

On 16th and 17th October, 2014 carhs.training organizes in Munich - again in collaboration with the Bioengineering Center at Wayne State University (Detroit, USA) - the 5th International Symposium "Human Modeling and Simulation in Automotive Engineering". The symposium will be held directly after the 58th Annual Meeting of the AAAM (Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine), to give visitors from abroad the opportunity to participate in both events.

At the symposium internationally recognized experts in digital human modeling report on their work and participants will be given the opportunity to inform themselves comprehensively about the state of development and the application of virtual human models in automotive engineering. At this year's Symposium there will be special sessions on the two most ambitious development projects of digital human models for applications in automotive safety - the THUMS models of Toyota and the models from the GHBMC (Global Human Body Modelling Consortium).

Information on the symposium, the program and the possibility to register online can be found on the website of the event. Employees of universities and research institute receive a of 40% discount on the conference fee

Dassault Systèmes acquires SIMPACK

article imageWith the acquisition of SIMPACK (based near Munich, Germany) Dassault Systèmes is expanding its SIMULIA realistic multiphysics simulation technology portfolio to include multi-body mechatronic systems. SIMPACK has more than 130 customers in the energy, automotive, and rail industries, including Alstom, Bombardier, BMW, Daimler, Honda, Jaguar Land Rover, MAN, and Vestas. “Today’s acquisition of SIMPACK, part of a larger, ongoing strategy to continually expand the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, enables a complete virtual and real product experience, like never before” said Bernard Charlès, President and CEO, Dassault Systèmes. “Consumers expect automobiles, aircraft, and nearly all products to continually get smarter, safer, faster, quieter, and more efficient. This means companies need to do more than engineer everything coming together – such as controls, movement, bending, and noise. They need to experience their product as they create it.”

Fraunhofer ITWM develops interactive simulator for vehicles

article imageResearchers at the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Mathematics ITWM in Kaiserslautern, Germany, have developed an interactive driving simulator using RODOS (robot-based driving and operation simulator) with which realistic interaction between human and vehicle can be analyzed. “Driving behavior is a key factor that is often insufficiently accounted for in computational models,” according to Dr. Klaus Dreßler of ITWM. No doubt there are algorithms that are supposed to represent the “human factor” in simulations – however, these do not properly reflect the complexity of human behavior. For this reason, researchers at ITWM have shifted to a hybrid design for simulation. Hybrid here means a real person interacts with a simulation environment – a well-known example of this is a flight simulator, in which pilots regularly practice extreme situations.

Successful natural fiber composite simulation presented at ANTEC

article imageThe joint research project natural fiber composite simulation has delivered interesting results before the end of the regular duration of the project. An indication of this is that a total of five presentations from individual project partners have been accepted at this year's SPE Antec in Las Vegas. In the project it has been demonstrated that the accuracy of crash simulations of natural fiber reinforced plastics as required by the automotive industry can be achieved. As part of the project M-Base has worked on the micro-mechanical modeling of the compounds and supported the partners in the measurement of fiber orientation distributions. Particularly noteworthy is the new option to provide parameters - like the fiber interaction coefficient - for injection molding of plastics exclusively based on the material properties of the matrix and fibers and thus avoid the re-engineering processes previously required.

Materialise to implement 3-matic STL for additive manufacturing in the Altair Partner Alliance

article imageThe Altair Partner Alliance (APA) announced that 3-matic STL by Materialise will be available through the program in 2014. This software enables design modification, remeshing, and the creation of 3D textures, lightweight models and conformal structures, all on STL level. 3-matic STL is used to quickly prepare computer-aided design (CAD) files from topology optimization, as well as to clean them up for 3D printing. “We are very pleased to join the Altair Partner Alliance. We believe that our technologies are complementary and thus strengthen each other,” said Lieve Boeykens, Brand Manager for Materialise. “We are happy that we can offer Altair’s customers a more complete solution when they are working with topology optimization, and look forward to welcoming them as our own customers. Together, Altair and 3-matic STL offer a complete toolbox to materialise topology-optimized files into real parts.”

German Material Week 2014 held in November at carhs.training

article imageSimulation experts agree that the appropriate description of material behavior is important for predictive simulations. Prerequisite for the selection of the correct material models and the determination of the required parameters is a deep understanding of the materials and the models to describe them. Therefore, we offer during the week of 3 – 7 November 4 seminars for modeling the crash behavior of the main material groups of the modern automotive design (plastics and foams, high-strength steels and other metals, high-tech composites, short-fiber-reinforced plastics). The seminars are held in German language! Detailed information on the content and the speakers you find under the links provided. To make participation for you especially attractive, you will receive - as part of the material-week - for bookings of 2 or more seminars a 10% discount on the seminar fee. This offer also applies to application of various employees of a business name
