The use of virtual human models in vehicle development opens up fantastic opportunities to further increase comfort, ergonomics and safety of vehicles. Since 2007 our International Human Modeling Symposium provides a platform for the exchange between users, researchers and developers of digital human models for vehicle development. Occupant Protection for Autonomous Vehicles is the Focus Theme 2018. 
The central energy storage of the electric car, the battery, can be damaged in a crash and - in the worst case by internal short circuits - endanger the safety of occupants and rescue personal. The focus of the project, which is being carried out by the two Freiburg Fraunhofer Institutes EMI and IWM, is the development of simulation methods for crash safety of batteries. 
Granta Design has released to the Additive Manufacturing (AM) community key details of the underlying data structures behind their AM data management solution. In publishing the Schema information, Granta aims to encourage projects to systematically manage AM data and to support development of Standards.
