Volvo and Ford keep Pace with Euro NCAP’s Safety Challenge

Euro NCAP releases the safety ratings of two new cars. Both Volvo’s new small off-roader, the XC40, and the latest version of Ford’s small family car, the Focus, achieve a maximum five-star rating. The XC40 scored 97 percent for adult occupant protection, putting it amongst the top five cars for this aspect of safety tested by Euro NCAP in the last three years.

New WP.29 Task Force established on Automated Vehicles

article imageCLEPA assumed the role of Secretariat in the newly established Task Force on Automated Vehicles “TF AutoVeh” of WP.29, specifically dedicated to the development of a global vision and set of principles for safety assessment and certification of highly automated vehicle functions. This will be a completely new assessment regime to provide the reassurance about highly automated vehicle safety performances under real-life traffic conditions; the Task-Force will, therefore, include among its membership the widest possible constituency of UN member States and associated/ affiliated bodies.

How to protect Cyclists and Pedestrians in City Traffic

However, Volvo Truck’s research shows that the same reduction is not being seen in accidents involving cyclists and pedestrians. Actions are needed to reduce these accidents. Safety First: Project OSCCAR ready for launch!

article imageVIRTUAL VEHICLE takes on the new “EU-Horizon 2020” research project “OSCCAR”, in cooperation with 21 partners. The project is part of the EU’s “Vision Zero” – reducing fatal traffic accidents to near-zero by 2050. During the next three years OSCCAR (Future Occupant Safety for Crashes in Cars) will work on new methods to increase the safety of passengers by protecting them in future accidents.

One Star for Nissan March while Mazda debuts with two Stars Adult Rating and potential for Improvement

article imageThe fourth round of 2018 results of the New Car Assessment Programme for Latin America and the Caribbean, Latin NCAP, was released with a poor result for the Nissan March and with the first Mazda model tested for the region. The Nissan March, manufactured in Mexico and Brazil, achieved one star for Adult Occupant Protection and two stars for Child Occupant Protection.

The Digital Twin of the proving ground enables vehicle manufacturers to accelerate the development of ADAS and CAVs (Connected Autonomous Vehicles) by testing them in a fully representative virtual environment before validation on the track.
