The Grand Challenge is the only conference dedicated to the current challenges of automotive CAE. These were determined by a survey among the CAE experts of the international automotive industry. The strict focus prevents that there are countless, isolated lectures on individual topics which give you little information for your own work.

By focusing on the current challenges, you will get concentrated information on this year's conference topics:

  • Crash: Material and failure models of plastics
  • Fatigue: Virtual proofing ground - determination of load collectives
  • NVH: Squeak and rattle, groaning
  • Multi simulation: Influence of manufacturing on materials and products
  • Optimization: Topology optimization
  • Safety: Stability of dummy models
  • Strength: Failure models for adhesives

Lectures from industry, research and software development, will provide you valuable insights and ideas that will help you master your own challenges. The exchange with the other participants provides you with suggestions which will fertilize your work. In addition, you can find out about the latest developments in hardware and software in 4 workshops and in the accompanying exhibition.

Comprehensive information on the automotive CAE Grand Challenge you can find under the links provided and on the website of the Grand Challenge. There you can also register online.

Participants are encouraged to participate in the Partner workshops at the automotive CAE Grand Challenge 2017.

Simpleware-Software-Workshop "Image-based Solutions for 3D Model Generation and Simulation". Simpleware software is used for a wide range of applications where 3D image data (from CT, micro-CT?) can be used for virtual exploration of components. This workshop is aimed at researchers, engineers and designers working with 3D scan data who want to understand common challenges and solutions when creating CAD and CAE models.

The simpulseday "Isogeometric Analysis" of the Automotive Simulation Center Stuttgart addresses the potential of "Isogeometric Analysis" to close the gap between CAD and CAE. The simpulseday gives an overview of the state-of-the-art, emerging approaches; software offers and gives space for discussion with other experts from simulation method development.

The workshop "How to venture a step into Engineering Cloud Solutions" by CPU 24/7 provides an insight into cloud computing in three sections. In the first part, Jens Tamm examines the trends and challenges of cloud computing. The second part shows what is to be considered when using cloud offers. In the third part, Alexander Heine explains how the use of a cloud offer could look like and how users can connect with the rest of their "world".

The Total Materia Workshop "Material Section: Avoiding Errors and Reducing Risk" by Key to Metals AG addresses all key aspects around the process of material selection, the workshop will cover potential perils and pitfalls surrounding material information. Whether its understanding all details in property variation at the condition level, discovering how to relate material information to application or simply being confident that reliable decisions are being made according to best practice, the workshop should give some useful insights for all attending.
