Researcher uses Computer Models to get Inside Heads of Traumatic Brain Injury VictimsEach year about 3 million Americans suffer from traumatic brain injury – concussions and severe brain damage resulting from sporting activities, car crashes, falls, work-related accidents and explosions. These injuries can range from micro-concussions – small jolts to the head (usually involving sports) that can, when accumulated, cause brain dysfunction over time – to sudden, extreme impacts that result in debilitating injury or death.

Millbrook expands Capability to include Euro NCAP MPDB Conformity of Production TestMillbrook can now deliver conformity of production tests to prove acceptability of Mobile Progressive Deformable Barriers (MPDB) for use in the new Euro NCAP 2020 moving car to moving mobile barrier test. The testing is performed at Millbrook Proving Ground in Bedfordshire, UK.

IIHS launches new Crash Tests in 2022The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has announced that it will revise both the barrier side impact and the offset frontal crash in 2022. The most serious changes will be in the side crash: Here the mass of the barrier car will increase to 1.9 tons and the speed will be increased to 60 kph. This corresponds to an increase in kinetic energy of 82.4 %. read more ... Royal Society recognizes UVA Auto Crash Finding as a "Statistic of the Year"The Royal Statistical Society announced its “international statistics of the year.” Among the most notable is a University of Virginia finding that female car passengers wearing seatbelts have 73 % greater odds of being seriously injured in frontal crashes compared to belted men.

Electronic Stability Control would prevent 190,000 Deaths and Serious Injuries in G20 CountriesA new report commissioned by Bloomberg Philanthropies finds that 42,000 lives could be saved and 150,000 serious injuries prevented by 2030 if all new cars in seven G20 countries were required to be equipped with an inexpensive crash avoidance technology starting this year. This report was released alongside the Transportation Research Board’s annual meeting in Washington, D.C.

Urgent Action needed to tackle Deaths of Pedestrians and CyclistsDeaths of cyclists in the EU have fallen eight times more slowly than deaths of motor vehicle occupants since 2010, according to the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC), authors of a new report. ETSC is calling for urgent action to ensure that sustainable modes of transport such as walking and cycling, are made much safer.

In order to evaluate the damages of e.g. the ribs or vertetebral bodies, the dummy underwent a CT-scan. For this purpose, the CT-equipment at the Münster University Hospital (UKM) were made available.

The Year 2019 in Numbers: Car Industry Fast-tracks Safety as new Regulation LoomsEuro NCAP looks back at 2019, one of its busiest-ever years, and forward to the challenges that will come in the years ahead. Fifty-five cars were tested last year, representing 26 different makes of car. Such a high number means that nearly all cars (92 percent) sold in Europe last year carried a valid Euro NCAP rating, giving consumers valuable safety guidance on almost any model they are likely to consider buying. Only three percent of new cars sold have not been rated by Euro NCAP.
