 Midsize Cars stumble in updated Side TestOnly three of seven midsize cars tested earn good or acceptable ratings in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety s updated side crash test. The Subaru Outback is the only midsize car to earn a good rating. With somewhat higher levels of occupant compartment intrusion, the Hyundai Sonata and Volkswagen Jetta manage acceptable ratings.

Volvo Trucks is now introducing a new safety system to detect other road users entering the blind spot on both sides of the truck. In busy traffic situations, it is difficult for even the most experienced driver to perceive everything around the truck. To prevent stressful situations for the driver, Volvo Trucks is offering its new safety system. Using a dual radar on each side of the truck, the system detects when other road users, for example cyclists, enter the risk area.
With an extensive active safety portfolio, reaching from the UFOpro to the UFOmicro, the UFOnano and the DrivingRobot, Humanetics is providing its customers the full scope of ADAS test robots. All Humanetics platforms are now approved by Euro NCAP and listed in TB029, meaning that they can be used in official AEB Euro NCAP test scenarios.
The Allianz Center for Technology analyzed 500 randomly selected motorcycle accidents for its two-wheeler study. All types of damage, from property damage to personal injury, were included. Hyundai Mobis has become the world's first to develop an integrated controller that analyzes the driver s vital signs, such as posture, heart rate, and brainwaves. Dubbed the Smart Cabin Controller by the company, this technology consists of four sensors for measuring the vital signs of occupants, a controller to analyze such signs, and software logic. It can be said the company has developed something akin to an advanced brain that can analyze vital signs that change in real time.
TÜV SÜD has recognised the CATARC Europe Testing and Certification GmbH in Erding as a qualified E-Mark testing laboratory. CATARC is the largest government-level automotive research centre in China. The official presentation of the certificate took place on 1 June at CATARC Europe in Erding. The system is designed to help Tier 1 suppliers and automakers adapt to the complexity and scale of EV battery testing through enhanced customization, automation and connection of data across the entire battery test workflow to ensure performance and accelerate time to market.
BASELABS adds dedicated functionality for automated parking to their algorithm for processing high-resolution sensor data. Baselabs Dynamic Grid now detects parking spaces from semantically processed camera data. In combination with the reliable free space estimation, the vehicle is enabled to automatically approach parking spaces and park independently.
With the opening of a new set of test tracks to perform complex CAV and ADAS testing and validation programmes, Applus+ IDIADA becomes Europe's most comprehensive site for connected and automated vehicle development. These new facilities, which complement the existing ones, consist of a comprehensive set of realistic scenarios reproducing urban, interurban and highway environments with the added advantage of allowing seamless transition between the driving scenarios when performing complex CAV and ADAS testing and validation programmes.
Capgemini announced that it has been selected by Mercedes-Benz to participate in the development and management of a Big Data platform for Automated Driving. The platform processes scalable big data that optimizes the AI technology for automated driving.
