In September, we have identified the current, critical challenges of automotive CAE. These form the topics of the 7 sessions at the automotive CAE Grand Challenge 2018. Since the topics have been published we have received a large number of presentation proposals. In some sessions presentations are still possible and proposals are welcome!

ANSYS announced that 3DSIM, the developer of the leading additive manufacturing simulation technology, has been acquired. The acquisition of 3DSIM provides ANSYS with the industry's only complete additive manufacturing simulation workflow. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed. 
How do you get a vehicle to drive independent and autonomously? You let it watch real drivers and learn from them. This is made possible by the open computing platform DRIVE PX 2 from NVIDIA. The combination of the NVIDIA hardware and the simulation software CarMaker enables training of deep learning algorithms in virtual driving tests. 
The thermal monitoring of a lithium-ion battery is an important task to avoid "thermal runaway". The challenge in simulating the electrical and thermal properties of a battery is to consider the thermal behavior of each individual cell and its thermal interaction with neighboring cells as well as the influence of the cooling system.
