VI-grade has announced the 2022 edition of the Virtual Formula competition, which for the first time ever will exclusively employ the use of driving simulators. Formula SAE and Formula Student teams have until October 31st, 2021 to register for the competition, a free-of-charge event which gives them access to VI-Motorsport, VI-grade s state-of-the-art motorsport simulation software.
The consortium will help make the Altair Material Data Center (AMDC) a world-class source of materials information that supports innovative product design and manufacturing. Developing sustainable, efficient, and weight-reduced designs requires accurate, cross-domain material properties. Launched in 2020, the AMDC provides users with the material properties they need for tasks such as virtual prototyping and simulation.
The Audace Sailing Team from the University of Trieste won the 1001VELAcup Trophy: Matija Succi and Alberto Tezza on board of Dedalo succeeded the international regatta, where sailing boats were designed, built, and run by university students.
The research initiative ITEA honors the VMAP project for outstanding results in the field of standardization with the "ITEA Award of Excellence for Standardisation". The international project led by Fraunhofer SCAI has succeeded in developing a vendor-neutral standard for the storage and transmission of data in computer-aided engineering (CAE).
The European Research Association for Sheet Metal Processing e.V. (EFB) has awarded Alexander Wessel from the Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials IWM in Freiburg together with Tobias Willmann from the Institute for Structural Analysis and Structural Dynamics at the University of Stuttgart (IBB). The two scientists developed a new 3D modeling approach that enables more accurate simulation of sheet metal forming processes that were previously difficult to control.
The project "Lite2Duro - Lightweight construction through resource- and CO2-efficient balanced injection molding of duromer molding compounds", which was launched in August, is conducting research into increasing sustainability and energy efficiency in the processing of duromer plastics. In a broad-based consortium, three important process-related obstacles are being investigated, simulation methods are being further developed and the solutions are being demonstrated in two industry-related applications.
