On November 16 - 17, 2022 carhs.training and the Bioengineering Center of Wayne State University, Detroit (USA) will jointly host the 9th biennial Human Modeling Symposium in Wiesbaden, Germany. Details and the call for papers will be published in March 2022. 
The ISO standard 13233-3:2005 describes test and evaluation procedures for the evaluation of rider protection devices on motorcycles and requirements for a Motorcyclist Anthropometric Test Device (MATD). As part of the ATD-M350 finite element model development, the existing ATD-H350 simulation model was modified with respect to the ISO requirements. Subsequently, the developed ATD-M350 FE dummy model was tested in close cooperation with a leading motorcycle manufacturer for use in crash simulation with ANSYS LS-DYNA®. A recent study using a computer model of a 6-year-old child provides new insight into what makes an effective booster seat. One thing that seems to be important: adequate stiffness. The new information requires further study but is enough to prompt the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety to remove the BEST BET designation previously awarded to two inflatable boosters, the BubbleBum and the Hiccapop UberBoost.
An Operational Design Domain (ODD) is fundamental to the safety of Connected Autonomous Vehicles (CAV). It describes the specific operating conditions in which the CAV is designed to operate safely. ASAM has now published the concept for a future standard to define ODDs: "ASAM OpenODD" shall specify a language concept as well as a machine-readable format to allow users to share, compare and re-use ODD definitions. Among other things, this will clear barriers between CAV manufacturers and authorities to determine whether a CAV is allowed to drive within the authority s area. The concept paper can be downloaded free of charge. Additional use cases or requirements can still be proposed before the standard development starts.
In the project "ProP4CableSim", the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Mathematics ITWM deals with the prediction of the elastic properties of cable systems. It is part of a special transfer program of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and the German Research Foundation (DFG). Partners of Fraunhofer ITWM are Saarland University and the ITWM spin-off fleXstructures GmbH.
