The Automotive Solution Center for Simulation e. V., together with a number of top-class partners from the "envited Marketplace", has created a unique, certified online training program for the simulation of automated vehicles, which carhs.training will include in its training offering.
Convergent Science is pleased to announce a new partnership with Red Bull Powertrains. The power unit manufacturer will use CONVERGE, Convergent Science's industry-leading computational fluid dynamics software, to develop a new racing power unit that will debut in the 2026 season
Common restraint systems - such as seat belts and airbags, which secure vehicle occupants in their seats in the event of an accident and protect them from injury in the event of a collision - are designed for a man who is 1.75 m tall and weighs 78 kg. They therefore only provide optimum protection for people who meet this standard. To change this, Patrick Laufer at IAV has developed a method that uses an interior camera, originally installed in the vehicle for drowsiness and distraction detection of the driver, to recognize the gender and estimate the height and weight of the occupants. This will allow future restraint systems to be personalized and optimize safety for each person in the car.
Altair announces that applications for the 2023 Enlighten Award are now open. The award is presented annually in collaboration with the Center for Automotive Research (CAR) and recognizes the greatest advances in sustainability and lightweighting that reduce CO2 emissions, reduce water and energy consumption, and drive the reuse and recycling of materials.
With the introduction of electromobility, air conditioning and climate comfort are becoming massively more important. Unlike the internal combustion engine, which can always provide sufficient waste heat for heating and operates all electrical consumers in the interior via the generator, the driver of an e-car pays for any heating or cooling power required with a loss of range. In addition, due to increasing competition in the industry, thermal comfort in the vehicle cabin is increasingly coming into focus as a differentiating feature. ARRK Engineering is therefore working on simulating the complex thermal processes with the aid of hardware and software dummies, as well as drawing up a comfort specification. Based on these results, the application work is to be virtualized to a large extent in the future, thus not only achieving a more objective result, but also saving development time and costs.
Cognata announces a new product launch, running on Microsoft Azure, and AMD processors and GPUs, to allow Automotive customers to virtually and efficiently evaluate ADAS/AV sensors through realistic simulation environments. Cognata's Automated Driving Perception Hub allows sensors to be evaluated versus a common set of industry-standard scenarios, and their performance is quickly and easily analyzed.
The ASAM Test Specification Study Group aimed to provide an overview on test methods and environments and to clarify the role of data-driven development and the importance of test data management (report.asam.net). Based on this work, the project group proposed the development of a new Standard for test specifications (ASAM OpenTEST). ASAM is now hosting a proposal workshop to start a concept project which aims to develop a technical basis as well as clear requirements for this test specification standard. Additionally, it shall enhance the ASAM test specification report by adding aspects such as V2X, cybersecurity or AI.
The DLR Institute of Vehicle Concepts, together with a consortium bringing together leading EU experts from research institutes and technology and industry partners from the automotive industry from Spain, France, Germany, Greece, the Netherlands, Serbia, Sweden and Turkey, is investigating how to improve the safety of connected and automated vehicles. The AWARE2ALL consortium will place a special focus on underrepresented populations to ensure that the results provide safety to all occupants and human road users (HRUs).
Topology optimization is associated with extreme design freedom and thus extreme performance, but the resulting designs are often incompatible with conventional manufacturing techniques. The development of manufacturing constraints for topology optimization is an active research topic. The COMSOL Multiphysics® software supports milling constraints, and in this blog post we will explain how to use such functionality and show examples.
