Seminar: Virtual Testing in Vehicle Safety Regulations and NCAP

article imageCertification and homologation through Virtual Testing has been a goal in the automotive industry for some time. Ever-increasing demands from consumer advocates and legislators are accelerating the acceptance of procedures to use Virtual Testing as an alternative or complement to physical testing and homologation. The course provides an introduction to virtual testing-based assessment for both regulatory and NCAP requirements. The trainer Andre Eggers has been a research associate at the German Federal Highway Research Institute since 2006 and works in the fields of biomechanics, evaluation of dummies, human models and virtual testing.

Removing the Warm-up Period from the Output of a Time-dependent Simulation

article imageA simulation software often computes a configuration in a step response fashion. Indeed, it starts from an approximate initial state and iteratively advances towards a statistically converged state that satisfies the physical constraints of the model. In Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), for instance, the conservation laws are progressively enforced, resulting in global signals with similar characteristics. Consequently, before reaching a statistically steady state, there is a warm-up period unsatisfactory from the modeling point of view, that should be discarded in our data collection.

The Role of Simulation in Understanding Hydrogen Combustion

article imageComputation fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations are an integral part of the ongoing research on pure hydrogen or hydrogen-blended fuel combustion to accelerate the adoption of hydrogen as a cleaner fuel. Simulations can help to understand the flame characteristics and dynamics at different operating conditions, different blend ratios, and other factors. These insights will help to overcome the challenges of flame flashback, NOx, and combustion instabilities associated with hydrogen combustion.
