Seminar: Robust Design - Vehicle Development Under Uncertainty

article imageThe seminar conveys the current state of the art of numerical detection and control of uncertainties in vehicle development. Aspects of sensitivity and robustness analysis are dealt with as well as questions of reliability, resilience, redundancy, model uncertainty and numerical methods for optimization under consideration of these uncertainties. Thanks to the methods of model reduction the numerical effort can also be realized in an industrial context.

The trainer Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Fabian Duddeck has been leading a research group on optimization and robustness at the TU Munich since 2010. The focus of his work is on numerical methods for structural optimization with regard to crash, NVH and other functional requirements.

Efficient Calculation for Euro NCAP Pedestrian Protection Using AI

article imageEvery year, new vehicles are tested for safety in extensive crash tests. The risk of injury to pedestrians and cyclists also plays an important role here. The effort involved in developing a "pedestrian-compatible" vehicle front end is enormous. But it can also be done much more efficiently. This is because the AI Crash tool relies on artificial intelligence instead of concentrated computing power.

Hydrogen Combustion Versus Hydrogen Fuel Cell: Weighing the Options

article imageAviation is vital to how the modern world works. As such, it’s no surprise that aviation’s carbon footprint has grown faster in recent decades than rail, road, or shipping. For example, in 2019, domestic and international aviation accounted for around 8 percent of the UK’s CO2 equivalent emissions. According to Britain’s Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI), the UK’s aviation sector is currently on course to account for roughly 39 percent of the UK’s CO2 emissions by 2050.  This is distressing because 2050 is also the deadline many nations have set to reduce their aviation-related emissions to net zero.

vehicleCAPTAIN toolbox : Smart Vehicle Communication Platform Wins the Styria 2024 Innovation Award

article imageWhen self-driving cars hit the roads, they will need real-time information about other road users - ideally by exchanging sensor data with each other and with the infrastructure. A research project by VIRTUAL VEHICLE Research GmbH in Graz has developed the vehicleCAPTAIN toolbox for this purpose. The compact, modular and flexible platform significantly reduces the initial development effort. The research team led by DI Christoph Pilz has now been awarded the Styria 2024 Innovation Prize in the "Digitalization / R&D Institutions" category.
