Sixteen 2025 and 2026 models from 12 different brands earn TOP SAFETY PICK or TOP SAFETY PICK+ awards in the latest round of vehicle ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The TOP SAFETY PICK+ winners include the Audi A6 Sportback e-tron, Audi All-new Q5, Audi All-new Q5 Sportback, Genesis G80, Honda Passport, Infiniti QX60, Kia Sorento, Lexus NX, Subaru Forester, Tesla Cybertruck, Volkswagen Atlas, Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport and Volvo EX90.
The new X-Crash version 8.8 enables the evaluation of physical and virtual tests according to Euro NCAP 2026 and ANCAP 2026 and integrates the new Euro NCAP spreadsheet for the overall assessment. The X-Crash evaluation software from measX is ready for the new safety requirements of the international crash test programs. With version 8.8, X-Crash now fully supports the revised Euro NCAP 2026 and Australasian NCAP (ANCAP) 2026 assessment guidelines - including all required sled and simulated tests. The new Euro NCAP spreadsheet 2026 is now also seamlessly integrated.
A world leading virtual human body model, SAFER HBM, designed for advanced automotive safety development will soon be brought to the market for use via Fraunhofer-Chalmers Center. SAFER HBM is a biofidelic robust, scalable, and tuneable, tool offering advanced human kinematics and injury risk prediction - from pre-crash maneuvers to in-crash impacts.
To prevent human injury in traffic accidents it is necessary to understand the biomechanics of impact. This can be achieved through experimental studies with volunteers or post-mortem human subjects. Mechanical anthropometric crash test dummies have been developed to provide tools for the development and assessment of safety systems under specific loading scenarios. With increasing computer capacity, human body models have become popular tools. This course covers the basics of impact biomechanics, such as human anatomy, population variance, mechanical properties of human tissues, and injury criteria. Finally, it focuses on computational models of the human body and their use in developing and evaluating safety systems. Karin Brolin is an internationally renowned expert in impact biomechanics and human modeling. 
U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy announced 33 million USD in funding for the Department's University Transportation Centers (UTC) Program. This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) will advance transportation science and innovation to solve for tomorrow's problems today. The grant program has been refocused to prioritize innovative ways to increase safety on American transportation, including through automated vehicles and driving systems, artificial intelligence and machine learning, digital infrastructure, and human-machine interface technologies.
ANCAP has added new safety gradings for the Ford Transit, Toyota HiAce, and new nameplate, Farizon SV, following the latest round of Commercial Van Safety Comparison assessments. This widens ANCAP's objective safety guidance for fleet operators and consumers comparing crash avoidance performance.
Leading automotive test solution supplier AB Dynamics has launched the GST 120 Plus, the first and only ADAS target platform able to achieve the higher test speeds required by Euro NCAP's new 2026 protocols. Capable of reaching 130 km/h, the Plus allows manufacturers to test their vehicles against the highest speed rear-collision scenarios in Euro NCAP's latest requirements for the first time.
The New Car Assessment Programme for Latin America and the Caribbean, Latin NCAP, publishes the seventh crash tests results for 2025 with five stars for the Renault Kardian, and renewed five stars for the updated Volkswagen Taos. The Renault Kardian, produced in Brazil, achieved five stars.
ASEAN NCAP is pleased to announce the assessment results for Malaysia's first homegrown electric vehicle (EV) by Perodua. The EV concept was first revealed at the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show 2024 (KLIMS 2024). With the official launch of the all-new Perodua QV-E, ASEAN NCAP is delighted to confirm that the model successfully achieved the highest safety rating under the ASEAN NCAP 2021-2025 assessment protocol.
Autonomous vehicles are built on sensors. Cameras, lidar, and radar act as the vehicle's eyes and ears, feeding perception systems with the data they need to understand the environment. If these sensors fail or if the vehicle s software misunderstands them, safety is at risk. Relying only on real-world testing to ensure sensor performance and the (functional) safety of sensor data is cost-intensive. That s why high-fidelity sensor simulation is no longer optional. It has become a cornerstone of how the industry validates AV and ADAS systems.
Wearing a safety belt correctly is crucial for safety - even during pregnancy. Despite this, many pregnant women position the belt incorrectly, which can increase the risk of injury to both the mother and the unborn child in the event of a collision. To raise awareness, the National Society for Road Safety (NTF), in collaboration with researchers from Chalmers Industriteknik, Folksam, If, SAFER, SIS/TK 242, the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket), and Volvo Cars, has developed a joint national recommendation for safety belt use during pregnancy.
The European Transport Safety Council (ETSC), alongside six major European civil society organisations, has sent a joint letter to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, urging the establishment of a dedicated EU Road Safety Agency. The signatories argue that creating such a body is essential to achieve the EU's "Vision Zero" goal of eliminating road deaths and serious injuries by 2050.
