 Euro NCAP launches Assisted Driving GradingEuro NCAP releases its second series of Highway Assist tests. To ensure the safe adoption of these and other assisted driving technologies by consumers, Euro NCAP has developed a dedicated test and assessment protocol, and a grading system. The latest test series includes ten cars that offer Highway Assist: the Audi Q8, the BMW 3 Series, the Ford Kuga, the Mercedes GLE, the Nissan Juke, the Peugeot 2008, the Renault Clio, the Tesla Model 3, the Volkswagen Passat and the Volvo V60.

The first vehicle models to undergo independent ANCAP safety testing to expanded 2020 criteria have shown safety is of paramount importance regardless of market segment or vehicle use. All variants of the Isuzu D-MAX (Utility) and Toyota Yaris (Light Car) have achieved the maximum 5 star ANCAP safety rating against the latest test and rating criteria including the fitting of a new centre airbag.

Recent AEB tests from FLIR examined how adding a thermal sensor and fusing the data with a radar, a visible sensor, and a trained neural network can improve pedestrian detection from current AEB systems. Following positive proof-of-concept test results announced earlier this year, FLIR and VSI Labs returned to the American Center for Mobility and conducted positive detection AEB tests.
Before autonomous vehicles participate in road traffic, they must demonstrate conclusively that they do not pose a danger to others. New software developed at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) prevents accidents by predicting different variants of a traffic situation every millisecond.
The New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) has officially appointed IDIADA as the sole and exclusive laboratory in Europe and the United States to conduct ASEAN NCAP testing for new vehicles aimed at the Southeast Asian region.
Trucks are the mainstay of logistics. In Germany, three-quarters of all goods are transported by road. Time pressure, long working hours, and monotonous convoys are part and parcel of the truck driver s everyday routine. If the driver is distracted, overtired, or reacts too slowly, the consequences can be disastrous. Automated driving functions are key to avoiding accidents and dangerous situations.
The increasing application of emergency braking systems to avoid collisions with other vehicles or "Vulnerable Road Users" (VRU) requires new test scenarios and tools. The reliability of safety systems needs to be tested and validated for a wide range of traffic situations. The newly developed MESSRING Playing Child Target (PCT) is designed to simulate a child on a toy car and enables the easy and uncomplicated execution of AEB tests, especially AEB VRU pedestrian back-over tests.
The jointly organized workshop from VIRTUAL and OSCCAR on 8 September was a great success; 166 people attended.
