 Stellantis opens Dummy Certification Laboratory in BrazilStellantis has taken another significant step towards excellence in vehicle safety with the inauguration of the Dummies Certification Laboratory. Located in the Safety Center, the most modern facility dedicated to vehicle safety in the Southern Hemisphere, within the Stellantis Automotive Hub in Betim, Brazil, the laboratory was fully developed in Brazil by the global Stellantis team in partnership with a Brazilian technology company specializing in data acquisition and testing equipment.

Freudenberg Sealing Technologies has added a state-of-the-art battery testing laboratory to its R&D laboratories at its North American headquarters in Plymouth, Michigan, USA. The multi-million-dollar investment will facilitate in-house battery and battery component testing, including simulated thermal runaway, and will increase the company's functional knowledge and product development capabilities in the field of electric vehicles (EVs).
Toyoda Gosei has invested in Pyrenee which is developing safe driving assistance devices to achieve safer mobility in society. Pyrenee Drive, developed by Pyrenee, is a retrofit device that assists the cognitive aspect of safe driving; it captures things around the vehicle that drivers fail to notice, which is the cause of traffic accidents in about 70 % of cases The device detects pedestrians and other automobiles and predicts their movement with AI.
Global electric vehicle sales have been surging, with 10 million sold in 2022 and 35 % predicted growth by the end of this year. Rising EV adoption and increased lithium-ion battery production raise safety concerns. Li-ion batteries that power EVs can lead to dangerous "thermal runaway" incidents causing intense and prolonged electrical fires. Workers assembling batteries face risks like hand injuries, exposure to chemical hazards, and potential electrocution.

Effective September 1st, 2023, TTI Senior Research Scientist Michael Manser was promoted to the role of director of the Texas A&M Transportation Institute's (TTI's) Center for Transportation Safety (CTS), succeeding Robert Wunderlich after his decade-long leadership as CTS director.
