In a significant advancement for automotive safety testing, Applus+ IDIADA has successfully conducted its first indoor crash test with a charged fuel cell vehicle, marking a major milestone in the evaluation of alternative fuel vehicles.
Green NCAP announces the formation of the Sino- European Automotive Carbon Footprint Mutual Recognition Working Group. This initiative is a collaboration between Green NCAP, China Automotive Carbon Digital Technology Center Co., Ltd. (part of CATARC), and other industry stakeholders.
The ZalaZONE proving ground has reached another milestone: on May 14, the high-speed oval track was officially opened. This new track module enables the examination of vehicle dynamics at high speeds and the execution of long-term durability tests, in full compliance with the most stringent international standards.
Euro NCAP now announced its new provisional 2026 protocols, which are set to introduce updated requirements for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), driver monitoring, crash avoidance, and post-crash safety. These changes aim to set higher standards for vehicle safety, requiring manufacturers to adapt their validation methodologies and testing strategies to meet the revised criteria.
At the United Nations level, work has been carried out to define a type approval framework for automated vehicles with no driving position meaning no steering wheel or pedals. These new vehicles present unprecedented challenges, both for their homologation and for design requirements (such as dimensions, architecture, etc.).
Ansible Motion and the University of Cambridge's Engineering Department are working together in support of a PhD study into human driver behaviour, funded by Toyota Motor Europe. The industry-academia partnership has set out to compare novice and expert drivers steering behaviour during extreme vehicle manoeuvres, in order to reveal distinct learning patterns and control styles.

The preemie body shapes representing the 5th, 50th and 95th percentiles were updated to their version 1.0.1. A CAD-model was developed for each body shape, by Magnus Fridsell. The head and limbs of these models can be rotated into different sitting postures. A landmark for the head centre of gravity (CG) was added and can be used together with the CG for the whole body in the assessment of infant car seat design.
Latin NCAP publishes the fourth crash tests result for 2025 with five stars for the recently launched Volkswagen Tera. The Volkswagen Tera, made in Brazil, achieved five stars. The Tera that offers 6 airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) as standard and ADAS technologies as optional, achieved 89.88 % in Adult Occupant, 87.25 % in Child Occupant, 75.77 % in Pedestrian Protection and Vulnerable Road Users and 84.76 % in Safety Assist.
The likelihood of a pedestrian or cyclist being fatally injured is 44 % higher if they are hit by a sports utility vehicle (SUV) or light truck vehicle (LTV) compared with smaller passenger cars, new research shows. For children there is an even larger effect, with a child hit by a SUV or LTV being 82 % more likely to be killed than a child hit by a passenger car.
In V4SAFETY we focus on prospective safety performance assessment using virtual simulations. We provide a framework for conducting computer simulations to assess the long-term performance and impact of road safety solutions. Our simulations include various models that cover both pre-crash and in-crash scenarios.
