UNECE adopts new Regulation for ELKS and Guidance on Data Storage for Automated Driving

In an effort to harness advanced technologies to strengthen road safety, the UNECE World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations (WP.29) has adopted a new regulation on emergency lane keeping system, and it endorsed the guidance document on data storage for automated driving.

New IIHS Measurement Technique points to growth in Vehicle Blind Zones

article imageThe forward blind zones of six top-selling passenger vehicles grew substantially over the past 25 years as pedestrian and bicyclist fatalities soared, a comparison technique developed by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety shows. A recent study led by researchers from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Volpe Center is the first to use the new method that IIHS developed for measuring a driver s direct area of vision around a vehicle.

Electric Cars and their Warning Signals difficult to locate at Low Speed

However, a new study by researchers at Chalmers University of Technology shows that one of the most common signal types is very difficult for people to locate, especially when several similar vehicles are in motion at the same time.

Civil Society calls on the EU to limit new Car Dimensions by 2035

article imageMore than 30 civil society organisations have called on the European Commission to initiate work on a legislative proposal to set limits on the dimensions of new passenger cars by 2035 (particularly their width, and bonnet height), and to commit to publishing this proposal by July 2027.  The letter was published the same day as a new report by transport campaigners T&E revealed that the average bonnet height of newly-sold cars in Europe is increasing by half a centimetre a year.

Research on small Electric Vehicles

article imageAll our projects and initatives are geared towards one goal - promoting safe, sustainable and affordable mobility. We have now launched a new project at Allianz Center for Technology that exemplifies our pursuit of this goal: over the coming months, we will be conducting a comprehensive research into newly launched electric small vehicles and examining them in individual sub-projects based on various criteria. The following vehicles are currently available for testing: Renault 5 E-Tech, Fiat Grande Panda Electric and Hyundai Inster.

Toyota's Collaborative Safety Research Center completes Milestone 100th Project
