The Seat Evaluation Tools (SETs) are prototype concept models of the human, made specifically for evaluation of the protective performance of vehicle seats in the event of a low severity rear impact, up to 24 km/h. Two physical prototypes, SET v0.1 50F and 50M, have been developed.
The Automotive Solution Center for Simulation e. V., together with a number of top-class partners from the "envited Marketplace", has created a unique, certified online training program for the simulation of automated vehicles, which carhs.training will include in its training offering.
Total Human Model for Safety (THUMS) was already capable of evaluating safety for all - man, woman and child - thanks to its detailed representation of human bones, organs and muscles. In 2021 it became the world's first human body model with such high level of capabilities that is shared freely. The new version notches up an even higher accuracy and takes into account automated driving.
IPG Automotive is proud to again be a sponsor this year of the IMechE Formula Student competition, Europe's best-known engineering competition for students. In July 2023, Formula Student will celebrate its 25th anniversary at the Silverstone race track, where the British Grand Prix is also held. The competition, which involves over 100 universities and colleges, aims to build the skills of budding, innovative engineers and inspire young people to become engineers.
Increasing demands on sheet metal forming processes require ever more extensive experimental characterizations of the starting materials. At the same time, the characterization tests used are facing ever new challenges due to the use of thinner sheets. The Virtual Laboratory of the Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials IWM in Freiburg provides a remedy: It determines the necessary characteristic values for the design of the sheet metal forming process by simulation. Fraunhofer IWM is cooperating with the University of Twente in the Netherlands to further develop the Virtual Laboratory.
The new methodology is the result of the combination of Human Body Model simulations with pre-crash testing on a driving simulator, correlated with real data obtained in proving ground tests. Applus+ IDIADA has developed a validated set of procedures to better understand pre-crash occupant behaviour in order to assess the impact of ADAS functionalities on occupant protection. This new methodology combines pre-crash testing, on both driving simulator and proving ground, and Human Body Model (HBM) simulations.
ASAM is starting a follow-up activity to the ASAM Test Specification study project. The ASAM Test Specification study group aimed to provide an overview on test methods and environments and to clarify the role of data-driven development and the importance of test data management (report.asam.net). Based on this work, the project group proposed the development of a new standard for test specifications (ASAM OpenTEST).
MoKat stands for innovation in welding technology. A research project for the development of damage models for cold crack, load and crash simulation for automation and digitalization in welding technology. The publicly funded research project will enable complex welding and tensile tests to be replaced by numerical simulation in the future.
They will form the heart of highly automated networked vehicles: powerful computers installed in cars that process all data and information so quickly and highly reliably that they can steer vehicles safely through traffic. The Mannheim-CeCaS (CentralCarServer) research project is to develop a corresponding automotive supercomputing platform.
Whether autonomous vehicles in intralogistics or machine tools in industrial manufacturing: Errors and failures of individual devices and components cannot always be avoided. Estimating their probability and optimizing the design of technical systems with regard to their operational and process reliability is therefore all the more important. With proSVIFT, researchers at Fraunhofer IGD developed a new analysis tool based on probabilistic failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) that can be controlled intuitively. Users thus reduce production downtimes, critical effects and follow-up costs.
