Siemens announced that it has completed the acquisition of Altair Engineering Inc., a leading provider of software in the industrial simulation and analysis market, for an enterprise value of approximately USD 10 billion. With this acquisition, Siemens extends its leadership in simulation and industrial artificial intelligence (AI) by adding new capabilities in mechanical and electromagnetic simulation, high-performance computing (HPC), data science and AI.
SAFER continues to grow as a neutral platform for world-leading traffic safety research and welcomes Amparo solutions, Innobrain, IPG Automotive, Mittlogik and Terranet, as new partners. Magnus Granström, Director of SAFER, comments: "We are very happy to welcome these new partners and to leverage their expertise. To meet national road safety tagets, it is crucial that more organisations and knowledgeable companies join forces to develop new solutions and drive progress."
Metal forming simulation is particularly beneficial on the value-added parts made from advanced high strength steels, since accurate simulations allow for optimal processing with minimal recuts at least when the right information is used as inputs. Tensile testing is one of the most basic formability characterization methods available. Results from tensile testing are a key input into metal forming simulations, but if the right information isn t included, the simulation will not accurately reflect material behavior.
Due to today's diversity of variants within a vehicle model (drive systems, battery sizes, etc.), vehicle weights can differ by several hundred kilograms, which has a massive impact on the crash behavior and requires variant-specific adaptation of crash-relevant structures. The goal of the project is to develop strategies for designing crash-relevant components within a platform in such a way that they consistently deliver robust and safe results despite significant mass differences.
Using innovative technologies, researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Mathematics ITWM are focusing on battery behavior during charging and discharging, the optimization of battery production, and battery aging. They are using modern simulation tools and innovative measurement techniques to advance the further development of battery cells for electric vehicles.
With the establishment of the cross-institutional Fraunhofer Lab "flaQship", Fraunhofer IAO, Fraunhofer IPA, and the IAT at the University of Stuttgart are pooling their research expertise. The lab focuses on application-oriented quantum computing in Stuttgart and Heilbronn.
SCALE and VCollab have entered into a strategic partnership to accelerate digital transformation in the simulation and engineering domains. By combining SCALE's expertise in Simulation Data Management (SDM) with VCollab's advanced CAE visualization technology, the two companies aim to deliver integrated solutions that streamline simulation processes, improve collaboration, and enable more informed product development decisions.
In March 2025, at the 25th Chesapeake Sailing Yacht Symposium in Annapolis, the Audace Sailing Team from the University of Trieste presented an innovative study on sustainable hydrofoil design. The research leveraged ESTECO's modeFRONTIER software to implement a multifidelity optimization approach, enhancing the performance of foiling sailboats while integrating natural fiber composites.
