Understanding Tensile Testing for Better Metal Forming Simulations

article imageMetal forming simulation is particularly beneficial on the value-added parts made from advanced high strength steels, since accurate simulations allow for optimal processing with minimal recuts at least when the right information is used as inputs. Tensile testing is one of the most basic formability characterization methods available. Results from tensile testing are a key input into metal forming simulations, but if the right information isn t included, the simulation will not accurately reflect material behavior.

Joint Project FeBeCraLa: Production- and Load Appropriate Component Design for Crash Structures under Varying Loads

article imageDue to today's diversity of variants within a vehicle model (drive systems, battery sizes, etc.), vehicle weights can differ by several hundred kilograms, which has a massive impact on the crash behavior and requires variant-specific adaptation of crash-relevant structures. The goal of the project is to develop strategies for designing crash-relevant components within a platform in such a way that they consistently deliver robust and safe results despite significant mass differences.
