Hybrid Homologation of the Future: Why BMW Group is in the Fast Lane

article imageFewer physical crash tests and less time and expense - but the same high standard of safety. The BMW Group is redefining homologation processes and is the first carmaker to successfully replace some physical tests with virtual simulations in Germany. The simulations are officially recognized as equivalent to conventional tests and save prototypes, time, money and resources while making crash-safety development even more precise.

Seminar: Design of Composite Structures

article imageSince the mass is one of the main factors influencing the fuel consumption of vehicles, increasing demands to reduce energy usage and CO2 emissions, force the automotive industry to consider the use of alternative designs and new materials. Composite materials have proven their potential to reduce the weight of structures in many applications (e.g. aerospace and motorsports). As composites have a special set-up and behave completely different than traditional materials, engineers must learn how to employ these materials to take advantage of their special characteristics in the design of vehicle structures. In the seminar real world examples are used to create a basic understanding of designing composite structures. Then the theoretical and practical foundations of composite design are explained.

The trainer Dr. techn. Roland Hinterhölzl has been heading the Professorship Composite Materials and the study degree program "Lightweight Design and Composite Materials" at the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria since 2016.

Why Real-time Climate Models are the Future of Vehicle Interior Simulation

article imageThe demands placed on the interior climate of modern vehicles are constantly increasing: achieving maximum comfort while minimizing energy consumption is now a key development goal. Cabin models with air zones make it possible to precisely evaluate and optimize the thermal behavior of the passenger compartment as early as the virtual concept phase. This reduces the amount of tuning required on the physical vehicle to a final fine-tuning step.

invenio VT Realises Solution for Virtual Assembly Validation together with an OEM

article imageThe increasing complexity of product development, particularly in the automotive industry, calls for new approaches to balance quality, cost, and time. invenio Virtual Technologies (VT) addresses this need by helping companies fully validate development processes virtually at an early stage and map them digitally throughout the entire process. A typical use case is virtual assembly validation. Here, digital vehicle models are analyzed automatically, and assembly-relevant information is provided in a structured format. Experts can check components and assemblies for assembly feasibility at an early stage, document problems, and derive corrective measures.
