Fewer physical crash tests and less time and expense - but the same high standard of safety. The BMW Group is redefining homologation processes and is the first carmaker to successfully replace some physical tests with virtual simulations in Germany. The simulations are officially recognized as equivalent to conventional tests and save prototypes, time, money and resources while making crash-safety development even more precise.
On November 11 - 12, 2026 carhs.training and the Bioengineering Center of Wayne State University, Detroit (USA) will jointly host the 12th Human Modeling Symposium in Aschaffenburg, Germany. 
Since the mass is one of the main factors influencing the fuel consumption of vehicles, increasing demands to reduce energy usage and CO2 emissions, force the automotive industry to consider the use of alternative designs and new materials. Composite materials have proven their potential to reduce the weight of structures in many applications (e.g. aerospace and motorsports). As composites have a special set-up and behave completely different than traditional materials, engineers must learn how to employ these materials to take advantage of their special characteristics in the design of vehicle structures. In the seminar real world examples are used to create a basic understanding of designing composite structures. Then the theoretical and practical foundations of composite design are explained.

The work combines Dallara's expertise in high-performance vehicle engineering with IBM's leadership in AI for physics and quantum computing to investigate how to accelerate aerodynamic design and open a path to even more advanced simulation workflows.
The increasing complexity of product development, particularly in the automotive industry, calls for new approaches to balance quality, cost, and time. invenio Virtual Technologies (VT) addresses this need by helping companies fully validate development processes virtually at an early stage and map them digitally throughout the entire process. A new simulation model developed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials IWM in Freiburg predicts weak points in forged components caused by incomplete grain formation (recrystallization). Integrated into an efficient digital workflow, this creates a virtual forging laboratory that enables material and energy savings in forging processes.
