Face It: Only one Type of Driver Monitoring System works, but it s not Foolproof

article imageAs vehicles become increasingly automated, automakers realize some technology may give drivers the false sense that the vehicle can drive itself. To counter this, driver monitoring systems with either a camera or steering wheel detection are used to prevent the deadly consequences of a distracted driver. However, new real-world testing by AAA found systems using a driver-facing camera are best at keeping motorists focused on the road. Unfortunately, the technology is not foolproof and a driver determined to cheat the system can defeat it.

Leading Commercial Vehicle Manufacturer replaces Front Mirrors with a Camera from FICOSA

article imageFICOSA will replace the front mirror with a camera system at a leading commercial vehicle manufacturer in the future. The front camera from FICOSA covers a very sensitive area on the vehicle, namely the area directly in front of the driver s cab. As a result, the driver can see whether there are pedestrians or cyclists in the area, especially when starting his truck, and can increase safety by avoiding collisions, also due to the higher visual comfort with a camera.
