The USDOT National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently awarded Calspan a contract to perform pedestrian protection testing. Pedestrian protection systems are vehicle safety systems designed to mitigate injury during a pedestrian s impact with a car. The sensors in front of the car react when the vehicle collides with a pedestrian, activating the safety system.

read more ... Euro NCAP's releases the results for its largest group of cars this year and all, but one of the sixteen cars tested achieved Euro NCAP s maximum five-star rating. Testing a wide range of vehicles in a wide range of classes, the results show the determination of manufacturers to do well in Euro NCAP s protocols for this year. In 2023, the protocols take a turn for the tougher encouraging manufacturers to consider other road users in line with Euro NCAP's Vision 2030.

read more ... It began with a meeting in a hotel room. On November 5th, 1947, six AAA board members and staff huddled at Washington D.C.'s famed Mayflower Hotel to forge something new. One of AAA's primary missions since its founding in 1902 was keeping roadways safe. The organization launched one of its first traffic safety initiatives in 1922 with the school safety patrol program. That prompted other safety-related programs, including a landmark effort to reverse the soaring pedestrian fatality rate during the 1930s. But there was a sense that more needed to be done.

The Chevrolet Colorado crew cab, GMC Canyon crew cab and Honda Ridgeline crew cab earn good ratings, while the Nissan Frontier crew cab and Ford Ranger crew cab are rated acceptable. The Toyota Tacoma crew cab is rated marginal.

read more ... TNO announced a strategic collaboration with Torc Robotics, an independent subsidiary of Daimler Truck. They are working together to substantiate the safety of self-driving trucks using scenario-based safety validation. TNO's StreetWise, a safety validation methodology based on a real-world scenario database, provides a large collection of "driving events". The methodology is designed to test and validate autonomous driving systems performance according to the latest safety requirements.
