The UN Road Safety Fund has issued its 2023 call for proposals, which will disburse USD 4 million to approved projects aimed at reducing road traffic fatalities. The call for proposals is open between 6 February 2023 and 3 April 2023. The duration of submitted projects may be up to a maximum of three years.
The CESVIMAP crash test area has been completely renovated, updating with the latest technologies, one of the most relevant and representative areas of CESVIMAP's activity and repairability studies for RCAR. The previous equipment was 30 years old and did not have the electronic controls and precision that current tests require. CESVIMAP has designed its renovation, carried out by the Spanish company ADDITIUM.
In order to understand the situation of active safety devices in vehicles and promote the application of RCAR Parking AEB test procedure in China. CIRI investigated on the active safety functions in Chinese market. Based on this research, the Parking AEB Test Procedure will be launched at the China Insurance Auto Safety Index (C-IASI) in 2024.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is strengthening the requirements for its TOP SAFETY PICK and TOP SAFETY PICK+ awards in 2023, demanding better side crash protection and improved pedestrian crash prevention systems and eliminating subpar headlights from the field of qualifying vehicles. As a result of the tougher criteria, only 48 models qualify for 2023 awards. Of those, 28 earn TOP SAFETY PICK+ and 20 earn TOP SAFETY PICK.
Many of us will remember the song "Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm" by a band called the Crash Test Dummies back in the '90s. Since then, the author becomes a little more familiar with real and simulated crash test dummies, and how their use has radically improved vehicle safety. The recent announcement that Ansys and DYNAmore will become one family is great news. DYNAmore is a very impressive organization, and the author thrilled that the relationship will be even closer.
Crash avoidance features have proven safety benefits, but some vehicle owners report problems with the technology following repairs. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety surveyed owners of vehicles equipped with front crash prevention, blind spot detection or rearview or other visibility-enhancing cameras. Among those who reported that at least one of those systems had been repaired for any reason, about half said they had issues with the features after the job was completed.
MicroVision announcedt the successful completion of its previously announced acquisition of certain assets of Hamburg, Germany-based Ibeo Automotive Systems GmbH. The acquisition combines MAVIN lidar with Ibeo perception software features into the MicroVision ASIC for automotive OEMs. In addition, this acquisition expands MicroVision's multi-market strategy focusing on industrial, smart infrastructure, robotics, and commercial vehicle segments with Ibeo's flash-based sensor.
Based on the 50% validated male dummy, the PRIMUS biofidelic dummy can now also be brought to a body weight of up to 150 kg. A female dummy variant based on the 50% male model is also available.
LG Electronics has announced that its vehicle components have been verified for complying with ISO/SAE 21434, fundamental for the UN Regulation No. 155. This standard automotive cybersecurity measure requires vehicle and vehicle parts manufacturers to employ certified cybersecurity management systems for protection against hackers and other cybersecurity threats. Meeting the highest standards for digital security, LG's automotive cybersecurity management system has earned the ISO/SAE 21434 certification from leading global testing organization TÜV Rheinland.
Fundación Línea Directa has carried out a study, in collaboration with Centro Zaragoza, which reveals that 16.2 million vehicles older than 15 years are already circulating in Spain, 44 % of the fleet. According to the study, the Spanish car fleet has become obsolete. It is not a minor detail the fact that the age of the Spanish park has a full impact on road safety, since, in the last decade, almost 2,700 people died in accidents with cars older than 15 years.
