Small Overlap Front Crash Rating Program delivers real-world BenefitsDriving a vehicle that earns a good rating in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's driver-side small overlap front crash test reduces your risk of dying in a real-world crash, a new IIHS study shows. A driver in a good-rated vehicle is 12 percent less likely than a driver in a poor-rated one to be killed in a frontal crash, the study found.

Euro NCAP releases 2023 Commercial Van Ratings and announces Plans for Safety Testing of HGV'sIn 2023, Euro NCAP is taking the next step and tightening up the criteria for the Commercial Van Safety Ratings. The results for eighteen vans are released that have been tested under these new conditions. Under Euro NCAP's plans, by 2026 vans will be expected to have the same ADAS requirements as passenger cars, and the van rating will from then on only consider standard fitment across all European markets. Euro NCAP will soon advance safety solutions in the fleet market with the introduction of a rating scheme for heavy goods vehicles (HGVs).

It enables vehicle manufacturers to safely test and develop ADAS and autonomous vehicle systems. It has been developed in response to the significant growth of PTWs globally, which is being driven in part by the increased environmental, economic and practical benefits of electric PTWs.

How Cars are getting safer with Interior Cameras and AICommon restraint systems - such as seat belts and airbags, which secure vehicle occupants in their seats in the event of an accident and protect them from injury in the event of a collision - are designed for a man who is 1.75 m tall and weighs 78 kg. They therefore only provide optimum protection for people who meet this standard. To change this, Patrick Laufer at IAV has developed a method that uses an interior camera, originally installed in the vehicle for drowsiness and distraction detection of the driver, to recognize the gender and estimate the height and weight of the occupants. This will allow future restraint systems to be personalized and optimize safety for each person in the car.

Infineon coordinates wide-scale Research Initiative for Supercomputers in highly Automated Connected VehiclesInfineon Technologies AG They will be the heart of automated connected vehicles: high-performance computers built into the car, processing all the available data and information as quickly and reliably as possible, so that the vehicles can make their way safely through traffic. The research project Mannheim-CeCaS (CentralCarServer) will develop a corresponding automotive supercomputing platform. 30 research partners from industry and universities are working in the project, which is being supported by the German federal government's large scale funding initiative for digitalization of auto-mobility.

Simulating Self-driving SecuritySelf-driving technology can save lives, but adding autonomous vehicles multiplies the number of cyberattack targets on the road - endangering not only those in the affected vehicle, but those in nearby vehicles and buildings. Road testing to improve security is expensive and time-consuming, but Commonwealth Cyber Initiative (CCI) researchers developed a virtual option: a vast digital library of real-world driving scenarios to help manufacturers craft more secure autonomous vehicles.
