And the fact that crash tests are becoming more and more stringent and demanding is evidenced, among other things, by the fact that the number of types of crash dummies used by koda is on the rise. While only a few types of dummies were previously required, the Czech carmaker now uses at least twelve. There are eight types of adult passenger dummies alone. And then there are child dummies, representing children aged 1.5, 3, 6 and 10.

Report: USDOT should take additional Actions to improve the Information obtained from Crash Test DummiesThe United States Government Accountability Office (GAO) published the report "DOT Should Take Additional Actions to Improve the Information Obtained from Crash Test Dummies". GAO recommends that NHTSA develop a plan to address limitations in the information provided by dummies. The plan should detail how efforts will respond to risks and set milestones. read more ... Toyota's Total Human Model for Safety (THUMS) Version 7 releasedThe improved human models have increased accuracy in the geometry and properties of some key body parts - pelvis, abdominal organs, spine discs, cortical bones, vertebrae and ribs. You can also sit the occupant in reclined posture, or reproduce how the human changes posture and braces muscles when manoeuvring the car in an emergency situation, or when the car's safety systems such as emergency braking or steering control kick in. The THUMS' new capabilities level up further the precision of crash simulations, which is key to developing safety systems that can protect vehicle occupants even better.
