The New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) releases its fourth roadmap for 2026 - 2030. The new roadmap maintains the four assessment pillars under the current 2021 - 2023 protocol; Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), Child Occupant Protection (COP), Safety Assist (SA) and Motorcyclist Safety (MS). In 2026 ASEAN NCAP will integrate AEB Motorcycle tests.

The results of a new public opinion poll released find that people across the country and across generations are concerned with driverless cars and trucks on our roadways. Commissioned by Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety (Advocates), the results of the Online CARAVAN® public opinion survey demonstrate people care deeply about road safety and the impact of autonomous vehicles (AVs) on public roads, and they are highly supportive of rules and protections for this developing technology. The poll of more than 2,000 adults also finds, generally, that concerns were shared in all types of communities, whether in urban, suburban or rural.

For the first time in European road traffic, there is no safety driver in the car. The teledrivers are in full control of the vehicle. They sit at a teledrive station with a car steering wheel and pedals - developed according to automotive industry standards. The teledriven test drives without a safety driver will be performed on a predefined route.

The results of AAA's annual automated vehicle survey show that while there is still a high level of interest in partially-automated vehicle technology, attitudes toward fully self-driving vehicles have become increasingly apprehensive. This year there was a major increase in drivers who are afraid, rising to 68 % as compared to 55 % in 2022. This is a 13 % jump from last year's survey and the biggest increase since 2020.

Researchers from the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI) in collaboration with Google's Android Auto team have found that mechanisms that encourage drivers to take long glances back at the road during extended interaction with a touchscreen infotainment system may be a key aspect of mitigating driver distraction. The findings come after multiple years of investigating if adding temporary pauses on a vehicle's infotainment screen, or dashboard display, would promote driver attention to the driving task.

It is therefore all the more important for manufacturers that they should be able to estimate the probability of such faults occurring in order to optimize the design of technical systems with regard to operational and process reliability. In proSVIFT, the research team at Fraunhofer IGD has developed a new tool based on probabilistic Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) that can be operated intuitively. It enables users to reduce production downtime, to mitigate critical effects and to avoid resulting costs.
