Bosch unites Infotainment and Driver Assistance Functions on one Chip

article imageThe trend toward software-defined mobility goes hand in hand with a centralized vehicle and electric/electronic (E/E) architecture. While numerous electronic control units usually control different functions in the car today, in the future just a few central vehicle computers will unite multiple system functions from previously separate domains. To do this, new computers with a powerful processor, known as a system on chip (SoC), are necessary.

CSRC leads the Way for Seat Belt Research on Pregnancies

article imageIt began with a simple question: is there a way to confirm seat belt safety for pregnant bellies? A Toyota team of four women and one man presented an idea in late 2022 that was simple but powerful: pregnant customers do not always feel they are safe and secure when using seat belts found in cars today due to seat belts fitting differently on pregnant bodies. Could Toyota help change that?

New Driver Monitoring Requirements for Assisted Driving: Two Steps forward, one Step back?

article imageWhen drivers use assisted driving systems like Tesla's Autopilot, they are more likely to get distracted. New rules on driver monitoring for these systems was voted on in Geneva as part of work on a major new regulation on driver assistance systems that will apply in Europe in the future. ETSC's automation expert Frank Mütze takes a look at what s at stake, and argues that the time limit for the system to act when a driver is distracted should be shorter.
