 New U.S. NCAP Requirements postponed by one YearThe National Highway Traffic Safety Administration published in the Federal Register two final decision notices (Biden-Harris Administration) announcing changes to the Agency's New Car Assessment Program and stated that these changes would be implemented beginning with model year 2026 vehicles. This notice (Trump-Vance Administration) announces that implementation of the changes for ADAS and crashworthiness pedestrian protection discussed are postponed for one model year. Given the decisions discussed, NHTSA plans to update its website to assign credit (via a checkmark) to any model year 2026 vehicles achieving passing system performance for the existing ADAS technologies as well as the newly adopted technologies.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy welcomed Jonathan Morrison as the 17th Administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Sean McMaster as the 22nd Administrator of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to the Department after the U.S. Senate confirmed the following nominations in an en bloc vote. At the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Morrison will be responsible for leading the agency's efforts to reduce deaths, injuries, and economic losses from motor vehicle crashes.
DEKRA has officially opened its new Battery Test Center at the DEKRA Lausitzring in Brandenburg. The facility is now complete, just under 15 months after construction began. Dietmar Woidke, Minister-President of the German state of Brandenburg, and Guido Kutschera, Head of DEKRA Germany, officially inaugurated the center by symbolically flipping the switch at the opening ceremony.
Advanced Driver Assistance Systems have evolved significantly, and along with this progress, expectations for testing these systems have also increased. The introduction of the Euro NCAP 2026 protocols marks a substantial shift in evaluating vehicle safety, emphasizing proactive rather than reactive responses. Systems must now predict, adapt, and effectively respond to complex and rapidly changing scenarios, particularly when vulnerable road users are involved.
A new AAA analysis of five years of government crash data shows a slight drop in child fatalities, but a troubling trend persists: child safety and booster seat use declines after a child turns three, despite the continued need for these safety devices. This is alarming, given that nearly 100,000 children were injured in car crashes in 2023 alone, according to AAA's analysis.
Nardò Technical Center (NTC), the South-Italian proving ground owned by Porsche and operated by Porsche Engineering, celebrates its 50th anniversary. Originally opened on July 1, 1975, NTC has consistently set the benchmark in vehicle testing and development of the automotive industry worldwide.
Simulated driving environments enable engineers to safely and efficiently train, test and validate autonomous vehicles across countless real-world and edge-case scenarios without the risks and costs of physical testing. These simulated environments can be created through neural reconstruction of real-world data from AV fleets or generated with world foundation models - neural networks that understand physics and real-world properties.
A ball rolls onto the road, a child stands on the pavement - drivers' alarm bells immediately ring. The result: they brake because they assume that the child will run onto the road. Drivers are also able to anticipate the behaviour of pedestrians in other potentially dangerous situations. Autonomous vehicles, which will increasingly characterise the streetscape, cannot do this.
MdynamiX has established a new collaboration with VehicleSim by Applied Intuition. The partnership aims to integrate VehicleSim's renowned tools CarSim, TruckSim, and BikeSim into the MdynamiX series of test systems. This early-stage cooperation was sparked by the need to support motorcycle development through BikeSim, but the broader goal is to enhance the overall simulation capabilities of MdynamiX s HiL platforms across all vehicle types.
The Final Event of the SALIENT project was held in Barcelona, Spain, where three years of innovation and research on lightweight and circular materials, marking a step forward for a safer and greener automotive sector in Europe, were presented. SALIENT is a Horizon Europe initiative that started in September 2023, bringing together 12 partners who joined forces with one focus: to bring a new generation of automotive Front-End-Structures to life.
