Why Pedestrian Protection is becoming a global Safety Priority?

article imagePedestrian fatalities remain a sobering global reality. The World Health Organization reports that road traffic accidents claim approximately 1.19 million lives every year, and more than half of these deaths involve vulnerable road users, including pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists (Road Traffic Injuries, 2023, WHO). As urban populations grow, mobility patterns change, and quieter electric vehicles become more common, the risks to pedestrians are increasing.

New SAFER Partner Project: Equal Safety for the whole Population of Powered Two-wheeler Riders

article imageThe global number of motorcycles and mopeds has nearly tripled over the past decade - while fatalities have increased by 30 %. Studies also show that female riders and riders with higher BMI face a higher risk of severe injuries in crashes. The new partner project Equal Safety for the Whole Population of Powered Two-Wheeler Riders, funded by VINNOVA, will develop new methods and tools to better understand injury risks and create effective protection systems for powered two- and three-wheeler riders. The focus is on variations in rider size, sex, posture, and vehicle types.
