The SafetyCompanion 2022 is now available

The SafetyCompanion 2022 was published in December. It once again provides an up-to-date and comprehensive overview of the global requirements in vehicle safety. The so-called SafetyWissen (Safety Knowledge) has again been completely updated and expanded in many places. For example, the new Euro NCAP ratings for Child Presence Detection (CPD) and AEB / Lane Support for the protection of powered two-wheelers (PTW) have been included.

UN Regulation on Automated Lane Keeping Systems (ALKS) extended to Trucks, Buses and Coaches

article imageThe World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations (WP.29) has adopted an amendment to a United Nations Regulation on Automated Lane Keeping Systems (ALKS) that lays down the technical requirements for their use in heavy vehicles including trucks, buses and coaches. This step marks the first binding international regulation for the introduction of so-called "level 3" vehicle automation in heavy vehicles on the roads.

Mazda 2 reaches four Stars and Nissan Almera three Stars for Adult Occupant Protection

article imageGlobal NCAP and the Automobile Association of South Africa launch a new round of #SaferCarsForAfrica crash test results with the welcome support of the FIA Foundation and Bloomberg Philanthropies. The Mazda 2 with driver and passenger airbags achieved four stars for adult occupant protection and three stars for children. The Nissan Almera with driver and passenger airbags scored three stars for adult occupants and three stars for children.

Honda Conducting Pilot of new Road Condition Monitoring System to Enhance Safety

New GHSA Report affirms Behavioral Aspect of Safe System Approach to Reaching Zero Traffic Deaths

article imageThe Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) released a new report that makes the case for the integral role of behavioral safety and road user responsibility in the Safe System approach to traffic safety and includes recommendations for how organizations and advocates can work together toward ending roadway deaths. This new report, developed for GHSA by Cambridge Systematics, comes ahead of the U.S. Department of Transportation s anticipated release in January of a National Roadway Safety Strategy that will be rooted in the Safe System approach.

ANCAP welcomes mandatory Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) Technology from 2023

article imageAustralasia s independent vehicle safety consumer advocate, ANCAP SAFETY, has welcomed the announcement by the Australian Government to introduce an Australian Design Rule (ADR) mandating the fitment of autonomous emergency braking (AEB) in light vehicles. The new Australian Design Rule specifies the regulatory requirement for AEB systems to be fitted on newly-introduced vehicle models from March 2023, and all models on sale in Australia from March 2025 slightly behind the European regulatory introduction timeframe of July 2022 and July 2024.
