What happens if an electric truck crashes into another truck? Or skids and rolls over at high speed? Anna Wrige Berling, Safety Director at Volvo Trucks, tells us how the company's electric trucks are engineered to be crashworthy. Battery electric trucks are becoming a more common sight on our roads. With safety at the core of Volvo Trucks, the company's electric trucks are developed to be just as safe as all other trucks. One important safety aspect is crashworthiness.
AB Dynamics has worked with Euro NCAP test labs and leading vehicle manufacturers to develop a method for testing Emergency Steering Support (ESS) systems to accompany the new Euro NCAP test protocol due to take effect in January 2023.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is updating its longest-running crash test, the moderate overlap front evaluation, to address a growing gap in the protection provided for front and rear occupants. As a result of SAFER's long and successful work with data collection and analysis to ensure a safe introduction of automated and connected vehicles, SAFER has been granted the opportunity to continue this work through a new project funded within the Horizon European framework program, as part of CCAM partnership work programme 2021. The new project is called FAME (Framework for coordination of Automated Mobility in Europe).
