 NHTSA's 5-Star Safety Ratings 2023 Crash Test VehiclesThe National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced its list of model year 2023 vehicles for crash testing as part of the agency s 5-Star Safety Ratings system under its New Car Assessment Program. These vehicles represent approximately 86 % of the new vehicle fleet, a broad cross section that will help consumers make purchasing decisions about the vehicles that best fit their needs.

Motor vehicle crashes cost American society $340 billion in 2019, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced. The agency’s new report, "The Economic and Societal Impact of Motor Vehicle Crashes, 2019", examines the costs of one year of crashes that killed an estimated 36,500 people, injured 4.5 million, and damaged 23 million vehicles.
It s happened to almost every driver: that terrifying moment when you have to urgently brake or swerve to avoid a collision caused by other road users behavior. Like a human driver, the Waymo Driver encounters potential hazards - from a vehicle running a red light to a car suddenly changing lanes. To evaluate our Driver s ability to avoid or mitigate crashes in situations like these, Waymo developed a comprehensive scenario-based testing methodology called Waymo s Collision Avoidance Testing (CAT).
With the new vehicle engineering center, AVL established a unique engineering facility to test conventional and future vehicles in Zalaegerszeg, Hungary. The 1,340 square meter workshop offers space for more than 50 test vehicles and prototype garages. It has a direct connection to the AVL ZalaZONE proving ground and provides an all-around solution to test ADAS/AD systems in a real-world environment.

Porsche Engineering and Vodafone Business have established Europe's first 5G hybrid mobile private network (MPN) at Nardò Technical Center (NTC) for the development of intelligent and connected vehicles. The proving ground in Southern Italy, which is owned by Porsche and operated by Porsche Engineering, now offers its customers a real-time communication network, which promises reduced delays, wider bandwidth, improved security and reliability, and faster deployment time.

DEKRA will also contribute to the long-term ambitions of Green NCAP, given its extensive experience in the field of testing.

Chinese energy technology company SVOLT Energy Technology Company Limited unveiled the third generation of cell-to-pack solutions called "Dragon Armor" at the 3rd SVOLT Battery Day. The company uses cutting-edge technologies to raise the overall safety of the car battery to an even higher level. As a system solution that enables both a high level of safety and a long range, the battery can realize a range of up to 800 km for e-vehicles in LFP applications.
Arbe develops radar chipset solutions that incorporate the Doppler effect into a phased array radar defined by an increase or decrease in wave frequency dictated by movement of a source toward or away from an object with the support of Ansys simulation software. The result is a high-resolution radar solution that helps autonomous vehicles (AVs) to avoid what s ahead, facilitating their safer operation in the real world. According to Arbe, it was a goal enabled by Ansys simulation with a focus not just on the chip and hardware side, but on full perception performance in the environment as it relates to the vehicle surroundings using front, back, and surround radar.
There are a variety of effective Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) on the market today. The potential for increased road safety is high when the driver uses these technologies. However, researchers have concluded that the systems are not always used and there is an unexploited opportunity to protect drivers from accidents if the systems were used to a greater extent.
