 US Representatives implores NHTA to prioritize Pedestrian Safety in U.S. NCAPRepresentatives Jamie Raskin (MD-08), Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), Eleanor Holmes Norton (DC), Steve Cohen (TN-09) and Earl Blumenauer (OR-03) led 27 colleagues in urging the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to prioritize pedestrian protection and visibility from the driver's seat in federal vehicle safety ratings.

As the world moves towards a future of autonomous vehicles (AVs), it becomes increasingly important to ensure that these vehicles are safe and efficient. To achieve this, commercial companies and researchers worldwide are developing new technologies and methods to test and validate AVs. One such solution is Cognata s Autonomous Driving Validation Library (ADVL), a combination of a scenario-based simulation engine and a comprehensive library of scenarios aimed at testing and validating AVs through standard packages of different driving scenarios.
Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) has created a 3D simulation tool to test automated vehicles in virtual off-road environments modeled after real-world conditions. The research expands SwRI's investment into software-in-the-loop solutions to test connected and automated vehicles (CAVs) in scenarios ranging from congested roadways to off-road terrain. A simulated environment, or a 3D "software loop", supports evaluations of an infinite number of scenarios that would be cost-prohibitive to test in the real world.
The push toward truly autonomous vehicles has been hindered by the cost and time associated with safety testing, but a new system developed at the University of Michigan shows that artificial intelligence can reduce the testing miles required by 99.99 %.

NI announced the opening of its new Engineering Innovation Center in Novi, Michigan. This state-of-the-art test center is designed to enable automotive manufacturers and suppliers to collaborate with NI's experts on their EV components, such as battery cells and packs, and ADAS sub-systems, improving the quality and safety of the technology in today's vehicles. Together with NI engineers, customers can improve the performance of their EV and AV products throughout the entire production cycle, ensuring the quality and reliability automotive customers demand.
An unprecedented and L5 autonomy ready feature set of the new future-proof XYLON QUATTRO data logger enables centrally timestamped recording of today's and future-expected high-end automotive sensors, such as 32MP automotive video cameras, as well as data playback in advanced open- and closed-loop HIL simulations using road recordings and synthetically generated data.
Future highly automated and networked vehicles will require powerful computer systems to execute complex computations and process huge data volumes. Within the framework of the CeCaS project, 30 partners from industry and research are now developing suitable processors, interfaces, and system architectures for this purpose. Two institutes of Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) are involved in this project that is coordinated by Infineon. CeCaS is funded by the Federal Research Ministry within the MANNHEIM Initiative.
