 NHTSA proposes new U.S. NCAP Crashworthiness Pedestrian Protection Testing ProgramThe U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is proposing updates to its flagship vehicle safety consumer information program, the New Car Assessment Program, or NCAP. NHTSA is issuing a request for public comment on new pedestrian crashworthiness tests that measure how well vehicles protect those outside the vehicle, which can reduce pedestrian fatalities. The proposed changes will provide consumers with valuable safety information and are part of the Biden-Harris Administration’s efforts to improve safety on our nation’s roads.

Dynamic Research, Inc. (DRI) can now conduct the full suite of IIHS ADAS verification tests following the addition of two newly updated draft protocols that were published in May 2023. The first updated protocol added to DRI's test list includes revisions to the Pedestrian Autonomous Emergency Braking (PAEB) protocol. The second is the Vehicle-to-Vehicle front crash prevention test, which has been expanded to include motorcycles and tractor trailers.
rFpro collaborats with Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation to develop high-fidelity sensor models integrated into rFpro software. The collaboration will focus on improving the fidelity of simulation solutions to significantly reduce the requirement to collect physical data during the sensor development cycle. It will enable perception systems for ADAS and autonomous vehicles to be developed, trained and tested in a virtual environment, rapidly accelerating development.
AB Dynamics has developed a new active onboard obstacle detection system that makes larger-scale driverless durability and misuse testing possible. It will enable OEMs to significantly expand the use of driverless testing to increase testing efficiency, improve data quality and enhance safety. AB Dynamics driving robots, or by wire control, can be retrofitted to almost any vehicle, including cars, trucks and even forklifts.
LeddarTech announces its third product launch since December 2022 with the LeddarVision Surround (LVS-2+). This product is a comprehensive fusion and perception software stack to support premium surround-view L2/L2+ ADAS highway assistance and 5-star NCAP 2025/GSR 2022 safety applications.
As part of Humanetics' commitment to deliver the best customer service, and to integrate its expertise across its global network, the company announced the formation of four customer service hubs in Europe. In the research project 5G in the National Park Region (5GNPR) funded by the Federal Ministry of Digital Affairs and Transport, b-plus technologies GmbH is equipping a planned automated bus shuttle with additional sensor technology and a high-performance edge node (vehicle computer). With "pandaset2bag", b-plus now makes a library for using the "PandaSet" dataset in the ROS2 environment freely available on GitHub.
The measurement technology specialist ViGEM has extended its high-end CCA 9010 series with the CCA 9010-50BE test bench logger. The new device has been specially designed for use in laboratories, test benches, and production environments. The test bench logger enables the efficient validation of ECUs and vehicle networks supporting ADAS, OTA (over-the-air) functions, and autonomous driving (AD).

International studies indicate that there is a lack of information and correct recommendations for pregnant women regarding use of the safety belt, as well as an ignorance of how the belt should be positioned. There is great potential for increased road safety for pregnant women and their unborn children, and the new SAFER associated projects aims identify the knowledge gap and take action. The projects, led by Chalmers Industriteknik and Folksam and funded by Skyltfonden, have been associated to SAFER to support the knowledge building in this important area.
